Yeah we all have money for a new part or new lines for the boat. just never enough money for a vacation or a newer car.

what is the purpose of the boom kicker? does it help give boom more stability?

The boom kicker holds up the boom. Typically there is a topping lift, which is a line run to from the masthead to the back of the boom. When the sail is raised, the topping lift needs to be loosened and then tightened again before the sail can be lowered. If the topping lift isn't tightened prior to lowering the sail, the boom will fall into the cockpit. To avoid all this, the boom kicker can be used instead. It's one less thing to have to deal with when raising and lowering the mainsail.

@@AdventuresInParadise I have an O'Day 25 on Lake Erie. I am shopping for an O'Day 30 to 35 for the Keys and the Bahamas. Instead of buying local and transporting it down, think its best to buy in Florida and refit there. I am researching Florida marinas.

@@sailingeden9866 I guess it just depends on where you want to be. I'd look for a private marina, not public as they might have less rules about what you can do on the boat, including living on it.
