Ya I have been going to the Adriondacks for years and had no idea it the largest park in America. I will be going back to explore again after the winter. You have to time it right to not get frozen or devoured by bugs. For me its my kind of fun (for now). I love Mother Nature without limits. =Cosmo

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed your video. First I've seen of yours. Love your toothbrush dilemna! haha who needs a motor?? It is awesome to see folks appreciating the beauty we have right here in New York. This summer, I embarked on 6 small trips-solo. First I've done this. (I'm a 55 yr old mom in downstate NY) Kids are big and hubby had no intrest. In two months I spent 25 days tent camping with no electric anything. I loved it!!! Was a bit worried of passing my time alone, but as you witnessed, the days just sneak away from you. You are an inspiration and living my dream when It comes time for my retirement. I want a mini rig--I'm sure I'll be ready to loose my tent by then. Happy trails my friend! Thanks for taking the time to make such a great video. You really have a knack for this. You are very interesting. Also, I love how you showed us the various appliances and technology you do use in the outdoors. And yes, nothing like a good map-something I thank my father for teaching me as a child going camping with him. A lost art almost.

From one young at heart old guy to another, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos. I live in Florida where it’s too hot and humid to boondock in the summer, and all the spots are taken by snowbirds in the winter. I just head north to the Appalachians or somewhere out west and enjoy the change in weather. Keep the adventures coming. The bike trip through Manhattan to the shore was excellent 👍

Cold weather sleeping: i just added an Alps rectangular 0 degree bag, with a hood. Wow. Instant heat. I put it inside my old full size north face 32 degree bag. And/or i flipped the bag over so the hood can tent over my head. Face is warm. Head is warm. And good space for fresh air. AND...im about the only person who believes in this but i use a hot water bottle in the foot space and it warms the whole bag. And eventually the teardrop. Yep, love the waterpic. What was the little red tent for? The eyeball thing was creepy. But the underwater stuff at the end was lovely! Glad you got out. J.

Careful when boondocking in the Adirondacks or Catskills. NY State law for these parks state you must be 150 from a road or body of water (stream/pond/lake) unless its a designated camp site. The site in the clearing probably would not make a DEC ranger happy as its right on a road.

Love your quote: An opportunist who finds himself in hot water takes a bath. Very similar to my motto: A lion chased me up a tree, and from there I enjoyed the view. :) Try coming up to our beautiful Canada another time. Later is better (Aug/Sept/Oct) due to bugs as you found out last time! :) We have so many gorgeous parks - Algonquin, the Gatineaus, Killarney and more in Ontario/Qubec region. Then there are the Maritimes, the prairies, out west, the north... Happy to provide suggestions for camping, hiking, and kayaking.

Great video, but you should know that you do not require a passport to enter Canada. It is nice to have when traveling into another country, but you can enter Canada without one, just need your diver license (official photo identification).
@CosmoWeems
@CosmoWeems 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff. I checked about entering Canada. Its not clear to me. What is clear is I need the passport to get back into America! This is what I found. "Entry into Canada: Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry both proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship." Thank You for watching. Cosmo Weems the rules may have change, but I have traveled between Canada and the US many of times. I have no problems with entering Canada and back into the US with a driver license. However, it is always better to play it safe and simply have your passport with you. I did one time and the Canadian border agent did not even bother stamping the passport. She just simply said happy birthday and welcome to Canada. No problems coming back into the US either.

Cosmo, thanks for all the vids. I am geeting dangerously close to purchasing a teardrop, down to a Vistabule vs another brand.... how is the sleeping on the futon? I think that's the decider for the wife. Again, love learning from you.

I find futon comfortable I do yoga and find most beds comfortable. When I purchased mine they were using Ikea Futon mattresses and I am still sleeping on it. No condensation build up on a Vistabule like many other makers experience. If you find the mattress unacceptable it easy to change. Regards =Cosmo. Another great video Cosmo. Part of the adventure is finding those great camp spots in the Adirondacks. I gotta develop some expertise in that. Exploring on mountain bike... priceless. You had your share of off-weather days, but it made those nice days so much better. How late in the season would / will you camp in the ADK’s ? Thanks again; really inspired by these videos, and plan to take some of the very same trips. Two weeks on $1K; pretty good.

I love the fridge. I never have to look for Ice. But thats me. You needs may vary. I have been all over the Canadian Mara time islands. I toured them on bicycle. Noca Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton and ESPECIALLY NEWFOUNDLAND! Newfoundland was spectacular for me if you like "out there". We just touched Labrador. too. More latter. Coolers are simple and nothing to fail. Fridge is independence. If it fails on the road I can pull it out and throw in a cooler too. Choice is yours. I got by with a $20 cooler for a few years. No complaints.on the fridge or cooler. =Cosmo

I’m new to your channel (and loving your adventures and sense of humor). I’m thinking of buying a teardrop in the next year for both solo adventures and adventures with my teenage daughter. I’m curious about your Subaru for hauling. Are you driving the 3.6 or the smaller engine? I drive a X3 but the space on the wagon seems perfect for camping (plus far easier to get a bike on and off vs my suv).
@CosmoWeems
@CosmoWeems 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea. Welcome and thanks for viewing. My Subaru Outback is a 4 cylinder (small engine). It has 73 square feet of cargo space. I just purchased a roof cargo box for 11 more square feet of space. I can cram 2 bicycles and the cargo box on the roof. I carry a folding stool to access the roof. amzn.to/2TN7ZEn Much cheaper than buying a new car! Towing with your car should be no problem. These trailers are light. There may be other ways around cargo capacity. You can carry SOME weight in the trailer itself. Summer camping - 2 people 2 bicycles? Vistabule (and others) offer options like roof racks on the trailer itself if that helps. If kayaking is your thing too there are inflatable kayaks too. Everything is compromise. If the bikes are on the trailer to transport them while camping you have to remove them and put them in the car etc. I would be happy to help if you have more questions and decision points. Having said all that I enjoy the the fun I have with the trailer. I can afford lots of larger RVs - this was a choice that matched my current interests. =Cosmo

Hi Cosmo, In one of your you tube videos my husband saw the UST 1000 Led lantern (in orange). He is interested in it and saw that it haas a glow in the dark power button. He was concerned that it would use battery power when turned off. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks Patti
@CosmoWeems
@CosmoWeems 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patti. On my lantern the glow in the dark button uses no power. Sort of like a watch face. You illuminate it and it gets charged from the light. You can put it in the sun and it will glow with no batteries in the light. I love that lantern. I now have 3 for black outs at home. I usually take 2 with me camping. How do you like the light? Thank you for your response. Although propane's boiling point is -41 F I think that effectively the use of the heater is reduced way before this temperature. Gas stove become much harder to use when temperatures are around 15 to 20 F.
