This is a really good idea. Looking forward to hearing updates on how well it's working for you guys. Would love to do something like this, but I'm concerned that our tongue weight would be way over the limit when the tank was full. Great video! Jesse.

Yeah the weight will be high when full. Especially for your 1500 I would be worried

Expect your frame to break especially with the spring bars hooked up.

We don't use a spring bar equalizer hitch. We use an Andersen which is completely different. It should be fine

Great idea and good placement. The weight that far forward will put most of the weight into the truck not the length of the frame. 332 is the weight of two smaller people, that won’t buckle the frame. If you’re worried due to KZbin comments, take the rig to a scale, weigh the trailer axle before and after filling the tank. I’ll Venmo you the scale fee if you post an update showing the result.

Where is the used water going? Did you cross plumb your black and gray now that you have the composting toilet? I may have missed that video if you covered previously. With this extra 40 gallons and that big bladder you have been using, your waste capacity seems low.

Yes we now combine our waste waters. I believe we have 90 gray plus 45 black. The compost toilet is a game changer for black tank space and water savings.

You'll want to throw a couple more ratchet straps on that especially after filling it. 40 years trucking and building oilfield equipment tells me right away you probably won't make it from the fill station down the road even a few miles without losing that 350 lb missile off the tongue of your trailer unless you're driving under 20 mph. That aluminum angle iron frame with wood screws holding it will fold like tin foil on good pothole. Empty should be ok.

40 Gallons x 8.3 lbs = 332 LBS. I see a follow up on this knowing scam design uses flipper frames, is that chance of buckling this is quite high. If you are watching this and thinking of doing this, think twice. It only takes one time where the trailer is angled lower and the truck is higher, and one divot to cave that thing. Not a fan of BTBRV JD, but he did a video on weight and buckled frames. Sorry, but I would never risk this.

The bed of a 3/4 ton truck is where i am putting mine, with its own pump. Building it for a 2k mile trip we are taking in sept. Or if you want it on the trailer, i looked at steel members attached to the frame going across the trailer directly above the center of the axles. I've gone thru the classic lippert failure of cracks in the web of the i beam frame over each spring hanger. Part of that repair was to install square tubing across the trailer welded to side of all the pairs of spring hangers to eliminate bending force on side of beam. The top of those would be a great place to mount a tank. After seeing all the lippert tongues bent up, i installed 2" square tubing 27" long under the box beams that make the tongue and centered where they usually bend at that front bulkhead. Found some long heavy square u bolts on internet. For goodness sakes be sure you disconnect your WD hitch before you go off road. Just remember, as flimsy as travel trailers are, the frame is by far the weakest component. No offense, but you could not put that 300 lbs in a worse place, exactly where they bend. The tongue is a fabricated box beam that is between 1/16" and 1/8" thick.
