Aaron McGruder is really an artistic talent that never got the full experience that his counterparts at South Park and Simpsons got. The way they "finagled" the series out of his hands was dirty and calculated. This series, at least the first 3 that he had creative control", are the only true series I enjoyed. The powers that be saw how impactful it was and eye opening before "woke" was a word made them step in and take it, then kill it. I would like to see him get back control and reboot the series with the passage of time. That would be something to look forward too, especially with all the social and economic events happening now.

From what I understand, after John Whiterspoon died a lot of momentum for the show died. Also, Aaron McGruder is one of those creatives who works on his own time, rightfully so, but when you’re a network like HBO with as much content as they put out. They frequently let go of shows because of scheduling alone.

Years ago, I was doing Black History Facts on the radio in Dallas, Tx. (It was Black History Month) During that time, I noticed The Boondocks was missing from the daily paper. We already didn't get Boondocks in the sunday paper, so I called them and asked why it wasn't there. They told me that they were conducting a "silent poll" to see how many people would actually complain about it not being there. So they could see about getting it removed. I never heard of anything like that, but it seemed typical. They said it wasn't funny. I said it was. They said it's not for kids. I said, neither is Doonesbury, and speaking of not funny..lol I suggested that they move The Boondocks to the Editorials, where they had placed Doonesbury. But for some reason, that was not an option. Man, that day I produced a whole new Black History Fact - and THAT was the topic.. I informed the city of Dallas about that little secret poll and encouraged them to contact the paper. I ended that episode with, "The Dallas Morning News, as racist and one-sided as ever." "I'm Rodney Blu, keeping it real in Pleasant Grove." (It may have been the Dallas Times Herald, not sure. It was a long time ago, lol) But anyway, after it aired, Joe Soto called me and said, "Blu, man I don't know what's gonna happen - They're one of our biggests sponsors..." But nothing happened, praise Yah Understand me. Speak truth to power.

Boondocks is legendary among the ranks as Fritz the Cat. Short and Sweet. Obscure yet still known by millions. Now that many of its stars have passed on, impossible to be remade or continued. I am probably gonna hit up Carl Jones for an indie comic collaboration. It's an obvious idea which noone has thought of just yet. The few I have mentioned it too have eyes purely lit up. Only Carl Jones could write the story correct.
