It is so heartwarming to hear of others who live(d) there and love it as much as I do. Does anyone remember Johnny Price's little store on Rt. 3? It's like West Virginia has so many quaint hamlets that are just so cozy. West Virginia is a very special place and I wish the rest of the country would recognize that and stop running it down.

I graduated high school in Boone County from Scott high school. There are some of the best people there. Hearts of gold. Back then Madison was a bustling town full of stores. Sad to see it today.

My grandparents lived in a little town called Sylvester, WV which is in Boone County. I spent my summers there growing up and I loved it. I come from the Combs family. I would love to relive one of those days spent there, but so much has changed.

@@peggyhill7283 I have heard, and I hope it is not true, that a lot has changed for the worst now. When I was a kid, I thought that place was heaven on Earth. When I was a kid, my grandparents lived on the road right across from Johnny Price's ---- they called it Boot Hill but I don't think that was an official name. As I recall, so many of the residents at that time were elderly, so I'm sure they've all been replaced with other residents.

Same here. I’m pretty old now so have lost most of my family in WV and am no longer able to hop in the car to run up there for a weekend. My parents, a sister and my brother are now gone too, so my reasons for going have passed. My only living sibling moved to SC so we keep in touch daily. Jessica when I was young, my tires kept I77 warm with every vacation and long weekend off work as that was the only way in and out back then lol. Stay safe traveling and making memories. :)

My dad's side of the family is from Boone County. Sadly, as of my typing, other than graves, only 1 cousin still resides there. Growing up, we spent a lot of time at the grandparent's place in Van/Gordon, behind the Gordon Missionary Baptist Church, which I will say was quite a cultural shock seeing as I was raised in Western Michigan near Grand Rapids, with its 1 million population in the general metropolitical triangle of GR, Holland and Muskegon areas. And while that time, other than being with family, not really looked forward to because of the massive change of pace...and I don't say that with any arrogance or feeling of superiority, etc...time has a way of changing things. And wow, what has been lost via time's passing from loved ones to the area as a whole. To be able to go back and relive that again only with the current mindset, but time and life does not allow for any rewinding and do overs in that sense.
