I’ve always thought that pitches low in the zone (or out of it) would be the most difficult to get correct. Your view is obscured by the catcher and “at the knees” changes with every single batter. But, I suppose when you’re in the bigs, you should’ve probably figured out how to get those calls right. Or, not.

In case anybody is wondering why Judge specifically gets so many of these bad calls, it's because he's tall. The bottom of the strike zone is defined by the height of the batter's front knee, and since Judge is so huge his knee is probably a full inch higher than the average MLB batter. Umpires fail to adjust for that, and therefore Judge gets more bad low-strike calls than anybody else.

Thing that annoys me about the low strike calls on Judge is how often I see him swing on stuff almost in the dirt, and it's not because he is getting fooled, dude has a great eye at the plate. It's because he feels he has to with all the low strike calls against him, that is why so many strike outs on balls low, he's not being fooled, he's trying to foul them off like any other batter does with 2 strikes, he gets so many low strike calls he can't not swing at them and get called strike 3.

Wouldn't be surprised if he wears his socks like that so everyone can clearly see how stupid those calls were in the replays.

@@Angels510 well clearly in the replay, we can see... it was a strike... and the call doesnt make the ump look stupid...

I'm sure Boone can throw that bubble gum down the middle of the strike zone whenever he can, c'mon ump's you can do better. Are those ump's getting paid to strike out the Yanks🤔?

Boone literally pointed at the Boston dugout and said “Dalbecs was a ball” referring to when they struck out Bobby Dalbec of Boston on the same pitch. It was going both ways

It’s insane that it seems like an ump has never admitted that they made a mistake. Shows that there’s an inherent ego problem with the job

One ump apologized to someone on a bad call that ruined his no hitter in the 9th, there may still be hope… probably not tho.

This is why baseball is viewed as such a joke now. When you’re making obvious bad calls over and over, the coach calls you on it so you eject him.. only to get a report after the game that says, oh yeah… he was fuckin right… glad I have Jomboy here so I can catch this clips for entertainment, and a reminder to never turn a game on.

Watching Judge over the years, it does seem like he gets screwed over by that low strike A LOT. Would love to see what he could do with a fair strike zone. ROBOT UMPS NOW...most of these umps are just terrible.

Um most of these umps are actually very good. The most accurate umpire has 95.5% accuracy and the median is 94%, and vast majority of them have above 93%~94% consistency. That's actually extremely good in Major sports and certainly much better than the robot umpires. I know we all like to shit on the umps, but come on now. The robot umpires that were being tested last year in Triple-A had 93% accuracy. That's considered bottom 10% in accuracy by human umpires.
