Two criminally underrated fighters from the Golden era. Without Sylvie's MT library they would have been unknown to me as well.

man Boonlai was my favorite fighter from the 90s, i loved his wars with Ole. i used to get Thai fight videos back in the day in the village in NYC at a little place called Phuket video. little side street joint me and my boy found and we used to get videos every week.. wasn't till later on i found out all these guys i used to watch were from the golden era of muay thai. Makes sense now as you dont really see wars like these anymore. There have been some great fighters in the last few decades but still, these guys were just as others in the comments have said. warrior poets. its one of those things where you ask, like a lot of people do with boxing, How would certain fighters like Yod and saenchai and others great fighters from recent times have done against Boonlai, Ole, Karuhat, Sanklai, Langsuan and other greats from that era. Its crazy to think that within a 10 year span there were so many great fighters that actually clashed because they were all around near the same time.. man im gonna go look for my old video tapes. wonder if they will still play lol. Hey anyone ever notice that Boonlai's trainer was the trainer in Blood sport that says to van damme, "oh really" when he says he going to beat Tong Po? lol.

They say that it all declined for some reason, but yeah the fighters were just much better back then, they had much more skills, today fights are never this fast and competitive

I find it funny how, whenever a newbie is taught how to throw a kick, it's always "You have to bring down the arm on the same side for more power and balance!", and then you watch legends like these and others kick, and you notice that the same side arm does almost no work - it's swinging the OPPOSITE arm down and bringing it back, both at AT THE RIGHT TIME, that allows for fast and powerful kicks, along with quick balance recovery. I don't even see it talked about anywhere on the internet. It's like it's this strongly kept secret. I recently told a friend of mine to concentrate on the opposite arm when kicking and to not even move the same side arm, and his kick improved nearly twofold within 10 minutes.
@johnnychannarong54848 жыл бұрын
i dont get what you are saying.. the reason for the swinging all the way down in practice is because they want to teach you how to activate the hips when kicking.. but when you're able to kick using your hips turned over, you dont need the aid of you same side hand to swing down much.. so it saves you recovery time.. also when these guys are kicking and lifting the same side knee to check the kicks, its not a full power kick.. try it for yourself.. eg kick the heavy bag with your right leg, after it lands instead of bringing it back down, just shift it to the left of the bag in a knee check position. you'll find that it makes the kick lose power cause of that shift to the knee check.. but.. it increases recovery time by ALOT..
@Epig4207 жыл бұрын
Bl2EAKIN I was always told to move it to the opposite side and not down, but then again even Senchai and others bring it down sometimes, I feel like it's mostly a matter of using the right tools at the right time
@joesheridan94516 жыл бұрын
Yodsanklai always brought his arm down (on the kicking side)...I think it’s still the most functionally optimal way to kick. You can’t really judge from some of this thai chess matches because there is so much trickery and feinting going on everywhere. Find it hard to believe his kick improved twofold in 10 minutes from anything let alone that lol
@petercarlson8115 жыл бұрын
I was taught the same thing but noticed that the slight gain in power from throwing the arm versus not doing that and have a better protection towards counter punches, made me stop throwing the arm. And since I do not turn over as much my kick retraction is much faster and my kick is not caught as often. I can also go from kick to block waaay faster. But then again I am not a power kicker.

explained better please, if I kick right, your left arm, according to your thesis, where should it go? thanks. P.S. I love Samurai Champloo too ^^
