I've finally had enough of Adobe, so have made the switch to DaVinci Resolve. Switching to Fusion from After-Effects looks daunting, but your way of explaining, and the examples you use are brilliant. Thanks very much for your efforts. This channel looks like its going to help me a lot!

Hey Michael, Thanks for watching. Fusion does take a while to get used to, but if you start simple and build on that it begins to make a lot of sense and you will be able to setup just about any type of animation that you are to do. Just another way to do the same stuff.. so really most of the same core concepts apply whether in Adobe or result. Just looks a bit different.

Fantastic. I have been making lots of videos recently but they have all been two window ones so I have just moved them side by side and gone with that. Very basic. I am expecting to have larger projects soon though and it is great to learn all the stuff about multiple timelines, transitions, etc. As I say, my use of DaVinci has been very basic so far but I look forward to exploring its potential some more.

Hi, nice effect. Personally I might have done this in fusion, but doing it directly in edit does make fiddling with the timings of the "live" clips easier. Also cool tip with the right click keyframe to get ease in/out - learned something new.
@WilliamJusticeMedia5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. Thought about using fusion, but have been doing a lot with it lately and wanted to try something a bit different. Grid setup and animations would be easier in fusion, but getting the timing of each set would not be as easy. I found the ease in/out thing not too long ago. Unfortunately it does not work like that in fusion...There are quite a few things like that that I wish were more consistent between fusion and other areas.

Hi, William!!! Thanks for this excellent tutorials. Is there any formula or method, to calculate the measure of the grids and the spaces between them, according to their quantity? I have to make a grid video(20-30 musicians), but at the moment, I don't know how many videos (people, musicians, grids) are going to be in total. Thanks in advance!!!
@WilliamJusticeMedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roberto... I don't have a specific formula...but.. you can try this... the full width zoom is 1... so if you want get for videos across the screen you would just need to divide that by 4 ... ex 1 divided by 4 = .25 So if you set the video width to .24 that would let you create a 4x4 grid. If you want a border between each of the images you would need to make with zoom a bit smaller than .25. from that you can adjust the positions to get them to fit.
@robertbonilla4 жыл бұрын
@@WilliamJusticeMedia Thank you!!! I deciphered the formula, watching your videos and analyzing the values you assigned to it. Excellent work and excellent videos !!! I am new to DaVinci Resolve. But I really like it !!! I hope I can learn almost everything you do in your videos. Very thankful!!!

How hard would this be to scale up to a 4x4? A teacher friend of mine wants to do a Brady bunch parody with her class and wants my help to edit it
@WilliamJusticeMedia3 жыл бұрын
4x4 would not be too difficult, but it would probably be better to use the new video collage feature in davinci resolve 17. I would give that a try.

Just a question out of curiosity, have you considered using Fusion to create the background? And if so, why haven't you taken that route (other than that it may be difficult to see what you're doing when not continuously rendering). A benefit I'd see is that it would make it more easy to reuse by swapping MediaIn nodes.
@WilliamJusticeMedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi. yes.. I actually created a full fusion version. it is animatanele and has lots of options. if look at my channel videos it is called power grid.
@wvansluisveld30114 жыл бұрын

@thegentlestories2144 жыл бұрын
would you go for same technique for 30 clips?
@WilliamJusticeMedia4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dominic, 30 clips would be a lot to put into a grid format like this.... A LOT of work. I am currently trying out a new grid technique using fusion which will hopefully be easier to setup and move flexible. If it works, I will be creating a video about it.
@toshisate81214 жыл бұрын
how did you get the position numbers 1260 and 720? i am having trouble distributing the 9 clips evenly on my screen... my timeline is 1080.. not 4k
@WilliamJusticeMedia4 жыл бұрын
You can probably compute the positions, but when I did it really just spaced it out by and... The middle clip should be at most 1/3 of the size of the timeline. Then just take another clip on top if it and move it to the left until the spacing looks good ... depends on the scaled size of your clips and how much border you might want between them. Once you have the X spacing figured out to the left, just save that number and use it for the clip on the right. Next move a clip up directly over the middle and try to get the same spacing. That will be your Y offset. Hope that helps. I just did it by eye... what I thought looked good enough.

Tip for you: no need to unlink clips - just Alt+Click to select video or audio only. The real question is: how to force DaVinci Resolve cache it? I have an easier setup (just 9 clips, no animations, 1080p), but because there are 9 videos, it still lags a lot. I ended up rendering this timeline (which previously was a compound clip, but apparently you can't render compound clips for some reason. Between, what's even the difference between timeline and compound clip?) to a video file and then inserting the video file, but that's a lot of manual work which should happen automatically.

Thanks for the tip.. .I did not know about that one. I will have to remember that next time i need to select only video or audio. Thanks for the comments
