My Fuel tank evap cannister vent is plugged. Or that’s what I think it is? It’s showing a evap code and takes 40 days to put gas in it. I don’t have a lift so looks like I’m going to use jack stands and drop the tank? Have you done this and if so can I get to it without dropping the tank of removing the bed?
@SniderTron3000
@SniderTron3000 6 жыл бұрын
You could just take out the driver side bed bolts, loosen the passenger side ones and tilt the bed. I forgot that that's another way people do this without actually removing it. But, I've only ever dropped tanks on the hoist, so idk about how hard it is to get to things. But I know people have done it
@chrisperkins7067
@chrisperkins7067 6 жыл бұрын
You could try cutting a hole in the bed floor. I’ve done this on my fathers truck. It’s not hard to measure the hole and then cut it with a jig saw. After we replaced the fuel pump we threaded some aluminum bars and then bolted them across the hole to reinforce the bed and then bolted down the the square of bed floor and then siliconed around the patch to make it water tight. We then put the bed liner back in.
@ShinyKnife
@ShinyKnife 6 жыл бұрын
@Chris I’ll take it to the shop before I cut anything. Thats a little above my pay grade lol 😆
@dannewton5363
@dannewton5363 6 жыл бұрын
If it takes a while to put gas in, try going under the truck and to the passenger side of the tank will be your evap canister, a black square box looking thing and remove the bolt and the lines that go to it, push loc style, then get a blow gun and give it a couple shots of air on the inlet side then bang it on the ground, lightly of course, keep blowing the air and eventually you won’t see any more dusty shit coming out. Hope this helps ya, it worked great on my 04 1500.

Just curious on your take on this, i plan on getting an 03+ single cab silverado ill try to find a 5.3 but ill most likely get a 4.8 since they're easier to find. I want to do a race truck type build and i dont know if i just want to slap a supercharger on top with exhaust and tune or do headers and cam plus other bolt ons. What do you recommend. And also how much hp does your truck make, have you ever dynod it?
@SniderTron3000
@SniderTron3000 6 жыл бұрын
With a 4.8 the go to is turbo. The bore is the same as a 5.3 but the shorter stroke makes them spool a lot quicker. If you kept it N/A just doing bolts ons, I think most people would tell you "just get a 6.0 and swap it hurrdurr" but I think a 4.8 with a good cam, heads, and exhaust could be pretty fun. And, nah I haven't dyno'd mine yet. I just estimate power based on what people with similar mods make. so it should be around 300hp at the wheels

When I did the fuel pump in my 03 I broke 4 out of the 6 volts holding the bed on before I finally said fuck it and dropped the tank so my trucks had 2 bolts holding the bed on for about a year

Why not push that bolt out now and Wild a nut in the channel for a bolt to thread back into.
@SniderTron3000
@SniderTron3000 6 жыл бұрын
Because that would mean cutting up the channel to get the welder in there, and at that point I feel the structural integrity that would be left wouldn't be worth the time and effort to do that unless I welded the channel all back together too.

I like to build everything. I just happen to keep stumbling into good deals on trucks lol I've got the RX-7 that someday, I hope to run 9's in. I'd like to build a cheap drift car even though the closest place to me to (legally) drift is an hour and a half away. And I definitely want to build a traditional low rider someday lol

The guy who lives across the street from the garage has a WS6 car down in Florida getting built do to standing mile events. He's hoping for it be be making around 1,000hp, but they're having an issue with a valve train noise right now.

Problem with these is you can’t control fuel pressure with the computer on a return style cuz it’s vacuum operated

Why is dropping the tank stupid? Asking to learn not because I employ other methods. Lifting the bed seems like a lot of work if someone is doing this solo.
@SniderTron3000
@SniderTron3000 6 жыл бұрын
It's not that it's stupid, it's just that trying to balance 10 gallons of gas in the tank and then once you get the straps off and trying to get the plugs and fuel lines apart while reaching around the tank isn't fun. It's not hard, it's just enough of a hassle that the preferred method by most people is lifting the bed. If you're by yourself, remove the driver side bolts, and just loosen the passenger side bolts and you can tilt the bed out of the way by yourself.

SniderTron 3000 good to know. Thank you for the advice. I hope I don't have to do it but I'll keep this in mind all the same. Also thank you for your videos. You don't give yourself enough credit for quality. You have a much more realistic approach and I feel like it represents real life mire so than those that inflate the production of their content. Keep it simple
