The more boost you make, generally the more back pressure you have. It seems that these wastegates lowered the back pressure at the same boost pressure! That is amazing, and should open our tuning world up some and let us make more power. Back pressure is the pressure in the headers, pre turbo. Extremely high backpressure causes reversion in the overlap cycle of the cam. That robs power. These Black Sheep Industries wastegates are awesome. He made a comment the other day that the gates or turbos haven't been in the winners circle yet. Then basically called you out, turn it up and ride out John. They want you to be the first one to do it.........

we use to do this on stock sr20det 4cyls for drifting. weld a external on the oem housing with a oversized gate, less backpressure, lowers egts, and cleans up the mid range and top range feeling coming on and off throttle you need for drifting. with a 50mm made 500wheel on stock oem manifold on a 2.0l 4 with a tiny t25 flanged turbo at 23psi. back in 06.

Good stuff TJ. A while back you did another video on boost versus back pressure which inspired me to play around with the internal gate turbo on my diesel 4x4. A couple of weekends on the die grinder (lots of pressure and temp measuring with real basic gauges and sensors)and a twin port Turbosmart gate and I reduced the back pressure considerably on my engine and gained approximately 4-500 rpm of usable power band - half down low and half up top of the rpm range. Feels like a completely different car and I didn't even touch fuel or timing yet. Thanks for the inspiration. Edit, on top of that I went from an 8cm squared exhaust housing to a 6cm squared housing and still achieved the drop in back pressure. Could probably go further with data logging and a Dyno instead of a a bunch of old gauges and a long step hill out the back of my place. But it's a mechanical pump and I'm a low budget kind of guy.

Seriously though where is your pressure sensor relative to the wastegate? Maybe it change the flow somewhat. Theoretically a high-flow to pressure relationship in a pipe with the sensor port perpendicular to flow a slight vacuum (negative pressure) could be created on that port. Stick a straw in a cup of water and blow compressed air across the top of the straw. What happened? It draws the water out

boost vs flow reminds me of my VW turbo days. Kids never believe they got smoked running half the pressure😂 but the little ko3 turbos were the choke point.

This car is so much better than the other one! Seems more in control and faster! Have you heard anything about Rob, Billy's friend? He had some sort of an emergency and was hoping he's ok! He was in the hospital the last I heard. ??

Hi John dont know if it has any thing to do with 🤷🏻‍♂️ it but I the video where you have the curser it has 14degrees in 1 log and 20 in log 2 all other stuff looks identical can the turbo work deferent because of that 🤔

Hey John... looking at the log it appears boost pressure was still creeping up slightly with the old gates even though they were open... are the new gates bigger?Thinking that the new gates are maybe just more efficient or the old ones weren't able to open enough letting more pressure build... Either way thanks for sharing so we can all learn together!

Those BSI waste gates are controlling boost more efficiently resulting in lower back pressure.

Less back pressure = more back pressure cause the less back pressure your engine has the more pressure it puts on your back lol
