Well that also depends on your device if the game needs 6 ram and you have 4 ram it will not work properly whatever you do

You probably need to tweak some settings in Nvdia control panel. Like changing power management to high performance for Xplane.exe app

The difference between high and maximum in world objects is enormous, always set this to maximum and look for good fps in other places

Thankyou for that. by watching this and reading ALL the comments.(last one especially about drive being nearly full and getting rid of addons etc) has made me decide to move it to a clean drive and fresh install. I have a i9 10850 gtx 3070 32gb ram and xplane only uses 10% of GPU and about 25% CPU. so from what i can gather 40fps is possible and i only get 20 fps max at 4k using all your methods in this video. This fresh install for me is a last ditch attempt on xplane 11. i started on msfs2020 then came to this because ,for some reason , i think it looks better, sharper and a superior flight model in my opinion. if your serious about simulators as a hobby this is the one. so big shame really if i dont get it running, just 10 fps more and i think i would be happy. well, wish me luck. iv got something like 700gb in xplane. thanks again Oblivionplays. iv subbed you. seems like quality content.

I used to fly XPlane in VR, and I really enjoyed that a lot. That is, until I got spoiled by FS aerofly, which is sucha smooth experience, that when I went back to XPlane, I couldn't help but notice all the constant microstutters.. it drove me nuts! So now I'm waiting for the Vulkan update, and I really hope that that's going to solve things a bit. I may also have to update my PC a bit, or maybe even replace it with a more up to date one, since mine is a bot long in the tooth by now. Also.. can't wait to see how FS2020 will perform.. if it's anything like the Earth View app, it should be super smooth.. but we'll see!!

Haha.. well we'll see. Ben Supnik said that debugging Xplane's Vulkan implementation would take weeks, rather than months, so it should be out before FS20. Either way, Xplane kindof needs a lot of updating for it to still compete with FS20. I guess the flight model is alright as it is, but it really needs better lighting, better (volumetric) clouds, .. umm basically better everything..lol. As long as FS20 doesn't have VR yet, I'll still be flying Xplane and aerofly though

Very useful video, thanks. Xplane really needs to pull their finger out and get Vulcan sorted before they lose market share to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Even with tweaks like this, xplane FPS is crap for AMD cards simply because their drivers don't support opengl as well as NVidia.

All too true. A lot of people say MSFS2020 will be the end of P3D and x-plane. I'm not so sure. But I agree they need to get Vulcan out ASAP and even then work heavily on optimising the sim to run on modern systems, namely multi core CPUs.

Helpful to a point, but a few things to point out. Screen resolution plays a huge part. If you get a bigger monitor and or increase the resolution, FPS really suffers. Also not using HDR is a good boost in frames but then you don’t get nice night lightning when dark. Virtual cockpit details also plays a part, some aircraft cockpit are heavy on FPS, event enabling a gps device can drop your FPS.

4K on a 55” screen is the same as 4K on a 27” screen FPS would be the same. 55” looks worse because the pixels are bigger and it’s likely a tv. A dedicated gaming monitor with an IPS panel will give you the best result in 4K. Other thing to note is the 4K textures are max compressed/uncompressed 2k is high.

Good point and well explained. I think I meant that going bigger usually means a jump in resolution and then your FPS can be drop significantly, with many people wondering why, when all they done was get a bigger monitor. I'm speaking from experience :)

The bizarre thing is on my system resolution doesn't seem to make all that much of a difference vs other games/simulators. Not sure why though! X-plane is a weird one...

The biggest problem is laminar and third party developers like Flight Factor are always updating and tweaking things so the software changes. When I first started playing XP11 with FFA320 I always had 40-50fps. Today, same computer, same scenery and having to lower settings in xplane, I only hover around 20-30 frames. They keep messing things up on their own. Hopefully Vulkan will help when it releases soon. Early Christmas gift with any luck.

Vulcan is really going to have to come through for Laminar if they hope to maintain their market share of users cause as of right now with every update the frames only drop more and more. The only other big thing xplane has right now that would be keep me with them is shared cockpit but it's looking like MSFS 2020 + PMDG might = unstoppable. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

X-plane 11 in VR runs like crap on my PC, it doesnt even do at least 30fps in VR. All visual settings are bottomed out. But my PC easily runs Assetto Corsa racing simulator in VR at 1440x1440 x2 (per eye) with multiple cars at medium world settings, low shadows, low reflections, 4x AA and 4x AF @60fps. My Windows mixed reality VR headset is set to run at 60hz My PC specs: i7 3770 12GB dual channel ram GTX 1050 TI 4GB

just check if your game bar is active, if so turn it off from settings along with game capture, youll get much better performance

Let's all face it...Xplane 11 is poorly coded. I have an i7 quad core running at 3.5ghz with 16gb of Ram and an overclocked gtx 1050ti with 4gb of vram. I have changed every combination of settings 10 times over and nothing makes a difference. Crappy framerate always sticks on 19.900 I have changed power, GPU, cpu, resolution and a combination of the above. Still useless. By the way my rig runs heaven benchmark with ultra settings on everything at 2k and gets 87 fps. Xplane is just poor...end of. Roll on FS2020.

Well I have about the same setup and get about 40 fps on high settings. I just cleaned up unnecessary stuff freed up some disk space and did a defragmentation. Also make sure the disk usage drive is low not 100%. Update drivers.

It's resolution, not screen size. I recorded it in 4K to try and help those who have that resolution, I even edited the video so you can see the FPS counter etc. but can't please everyone I guess
