First, I would like to say thank to you and Alan for embarking on this project! The articulation and flow of the videos are excellent and Alan is quite the genius fabricator. Also really appreciate the transparency in the mistakes you've made- it gives a lot of confidence to eventual buyers of your kit confidence that you will do the right thing if there is a problem. Frankly never paid much attention to the 944 before. I live on an island in the S. Pacific with almost zero car scene with the exception of the vintage Landcruiser Club-haha. There has been a 944 immobile on the side of a road for years now and I finally went and saw the guy. Pretty good shape classic timing belt failure and bent valves. He's selling that one and a shell with a pulled engine for cheap. As it's N/A my thoughts immediately turned to putting a turbo on it. Internet search and scouring comments led me to you guys! So I've watched all the episodes on the 07K N/A and turbo builds. Not sure if you've ever seen The Drift Squid channel with Jake Jones but he uses something like 40 sensors on his RB with his Motec b/c he kept grenading them. Also Cody Phillips racing uses a wastegate positioning sensor with his Tiel's. My question to you is how many sensors can you run on The Performance ECU and would it make sense to log as much data as you could being you are in the R&D phase? Or would this over complicate things? Also how are you determining torque specs for all of your add-on parts and any intentions to do a methane injection kit? Thanks again pumped on that 5 cylinder enigine note and will be following all the future videos closely!!!!!
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! The more data you can collect the better. I think you can run 9 additional sensors (over stock) on the PE ECU. Seeing EGT for each cylinder would be nice but that’s the only other thing I would want. WG position would be interesting but that’s getting a bit into the weeds for this build. I’m order to do meth injection properly it would need to be injected into each port. There’s plenty of meat on the runners to drill and weld / tap them. We are creating instructions with torque specs etc. Torque is determined by bolt size and the material it’s being threaded into

great work guys. I'm getting a super low mileage 07K this week, only $200! I love how cheap and plentiful these motors are, perfect for a track car. I have started on a CNC 5-1 collector for the manifold I'm making using an lpsfab head flange(literally cheaper than making it myself) and schedule 10 tubing. Those spa manifolds are great though, I used to sell them and a guy at the shop was making 800whp with his S54 BMW on a spa manifold and a spa turbo believe it or not.

I’ve been eying the LPSFab stuff, looks super nice! Would love to see the collector when it’s done.

Awesome project! I was curious though, what kind of trans are you using? I heard torque tube, are you running the stock transaxle still? I have a sbc swapped 924 and I blew up the stock trans, was curious what direction to go now that the stock ones are becoming very hard to rebuild
@BoostBrothersGarage2 жыл бұрын
This is a stock 951 trans. You really need a 951/968/01E trans to handle decent power. Not sure of the compatibility with the 924 though.

Just curious but why is the oil cooler in front of the intercooler? The temps on the oil cooler are considerably higher than the temps on the intercooler and if your already worried about efficiency of the intercooler then its going to worsen it with 120-140deg air temps coming off the oil cooler vs ambient. That swap is seriously cool looking though! I know what I want to do to my 951 track car! !
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Just what worked for packaging at this point. We may move it up to where the factory intercooler was at some point. We will be data logging IAT’s and Oil Temp so we will know if it’s an issue.

Will this kit work with a 2012 Jetta 2.5L Engine ? It has the standard power steering instead the Electric steering. I also have a 2013 Golf 2.5L w/ Electric Steering.

I heard you mention the TTRS crank damper, but didn't see that in any of the lists. Do you have a link or part number? The pulleys on the 07K I picked up are trash. I see the power steering pulley and the idler from the kit, any other pulleys I need to buy myself? I still have lots to do in preparation, but wanted to gather as much as possible before the kit arrives. Thanks.
@BoostBrothersGarage3 жыл бұрын
You can get the idlers and such from rockauto. Anything that is loose or won’t turn should get replaced. The part number for the TTRS crank damper is: 07K105243H

@@BoostBrothersGarage Thanks. I'm looking for that damper now. Just hoping to find someone who's selling it for something less than a crazy price. :(

this sure seems like a whole lotta custom components and modifications to mount this engine. Isn't the head very restrictive?
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
No, head flows massive amounts. Cams are the soft spot from the factory.
@pacoflyer4 жыл бұрын
Did you guys upgrade the rods? I know they will start to bend at 550 wtq. The factory head is great and will happily spin 8000 rpm. Might need springs. But it should be factory roller rockers. Great job! I was thinking of eventually doing this as a fun project!

No rods or pistons yet, we are aiming for 400 to start. Plan to just push it til it pops and have a built shortblock ready to go!

Any update is great man! Loving this as always. Do you have dimensions of the 07K itself LxWxH? I am having a naysayer say it will not fit in my application, whereas I say cowl-induction hood... I cannot wait to hear it sing on the dyno!

Why transition to 3.5" tube if the inlet and outlets neck down to 3"?
@BoostBrothersGarage4 жыл бұрын
The bigger your downpipe the better you are in a turbo application. The exhaust gasses are hot and need area to expand. Turbo outlet was 3” which is why we bumped up from there. Further down you can reduce back down or stay the same size. Alan wanted to utilize his existing 3” exhaust. We will probably drop it on the dyno to see if it’s a restriction
