Rather than red loctite, you might want rocksett. Is what I use on flash hiders and suppressor adapters. It can handle the heat and is chemically stable. Also when torquing, I always torque it to click at least twice. Torque. Let it sit for a few seconds, torque something else if you need to, come back to it & torque it again. Then stake. Peace of mind. Of course I'm not working on cars, I'm working on guns. But having it correctly torque barrel nut can be a life or death issue.

Sounded like that trans had other issues while they were figuring the setup out. He mentioned detents coming loose and other things not to mention that big nut that was loose when they opened it up. Hopefully this one lasts him a couple seasons.
@MJTAUTOMOTIVE4 жыл бұрын
It was because of the lay shaft nut coming loose that caused everything to be out of alignment. Also from day one the detente were never adjusted correctly and with a dog box they are really critical because there is no synchro ring in there like a standard transmission.

Everytime i see that intercooler i think it needs a scoop from the bonet or even some fans... How is that thing getting airflow?
@kinoderking95844 жыл бұрын
next time you drive down the road, stick you're head under the car then get back to us on that air flow.
@MJTAUTOMOTIVE4 жыл бұрын
You don't need a scoop from the top it flows from under the car into the engine bay. If the air came from a scoop on the hood it would be pushing all the hot air from the turbos and engine through the intercooler. A little duct at the front edge of the intercooler underneath would be all it needs when racing. But when he does race week a couple of 10 inch thermo fans on the top side of the intercooler to draw air through it when traveling at low speeds on the street. But the AEM ecu can adjust the power and boost when the inlet temps are to high.

So, I've destroyed, torn down, and reassembled my fair share of FWD transmissions, specifically Mitsubishi, but the 5th gear set up is similar. What I finally learned to do to be able to properly torque the stake nuts is to use a penny between the gears. The copper is soft enough that it will deform and not damage the gears, but it will block the gears from turning so you can get to that torque spec. Once tight you just back the gear up and pull the now smashed penny back out. Works every time.

Kyle, if that high torque is that important. Torque it, then let it rest for at least an hour or two, then torque it again. I can almost guarantee that it'll tighten a bit more after the parts have chance to "settle" for a while. You can do this a few times or until the nuts stop moving. You might be suprised at how much the pressure changes after the unit "settles".

They want to throw shade and act like they automatically know better because they watch KZbin vids bro lmfao. Acting as if mistakes don't happen to the best and most knowledgeable and experienced people is just another way of showing your ignorance. First race ready RWD car, first time owning/racing a sequential, first time assembling a sequential, it's called a learning curve and you have to sometimes make mistakes to better understand your capabilities. It's a shame The Rona didn't take more dumb people out.

straight cut gears require rpm matching in order to shift properly. you have to get it to rev up on down shifts, and add more time on the strain gauge, in order for the gears to match before an upshift. get someone who has there CDL and driven an 18 speed semi to teach you how to drive your car. or google how to shift with no clutch.

While the failing of the trans was a combination of things and the before mentioned hard miss-shift like possible on a motorcycle was the final thing that broke the gears the biggest tell tale sign that something was wrong was that overheated 5th gear selector. If you rebuild a oem transmission you have to shim those shafts to 100th's of millimeter clearances in order to achieve prefect shaft endplay. With that nut coming lose not only are you dismissing those fine tuned measurements leading to the harsher shifts and premature wear; all that torque is also pushing those shafts apart as hard as it can. Sideways pushing into both that selector and bearing causing that overheating and that gnarly rip in the outer bearing. As well as outward causing that wear on on the dogs. Your lucky the case didn't break. Well you live and you learn shall we say, I do respect that your owning up to the mistake. Lets hope it's a expensive lesson to not half ass anything during a build. Though with all due respect i've not really seen you do that so far..
