Small advice for a High rpm turbo application like that, to avoid unwanted vibrations at Higher rpm you should try and match your heaviest con rod with the lightest piston and mount the heaviest rod and piston in cyl. 1 and 4, the two other in the middel but with the lightest one behind the heavy one. Nice Channel you got.

I was told in engines class that when you gap piston rings its good to put the piston in the cylinder all the way down to the bottom of the piston skirt. The idea is that you're covering the whole travel of the piston and ring in the cylinder. Because, the piston is going lower that an inch in the cylinder. We built chevy 350's though, could be different for Hondas. Love your content Kyle.

I did my rings like that in my turbo LS build also. Although I've heard because of the cross hatching in the cylinder, it causes the compression rings to rotate opposite of each other and your end gaps end up passing each other anyways. So I don't think there's really a wrong way. Keep up the good work!!

I was told previously to have the ring gaps 180 degree and the gaps right at the opening where you insert the wrist pin .... because of something like tilting momentum of the piston with the engine running?.. and reducing wear on the cylinder walls
@Omc-Steelbone7 жыл бұрын
Kyle, You need to get one of the cars completely done. I would say the hatch. fix the transmission issue and whatever else needs attention. get a buddy to bring you down to Tucson on January or rent a U-Haul truck and trailer for the zip tie drags. You have to meet the motor trend crew- road kill and hot rod garage. I think they would dig your ride.

You are still saying the measurements wrong. The main bearing clearance would be around fifteen ten thousandths or .0015 which it is. You are saying fifteen thousandths or .015 which would be ridiculous. I am only harping on you because your builds are getting better with more people watching and I don't want you to confuse any n00bs doing builds themselves. Keep up the good work! Its a concept used in all engines, the pin has a slight disalignment from the piston so the rod isnt completley in the middle. This helps with the forces that the three parts recieve helping the piston go down and equaling the drag forces. Nice vid tho😂😂

It would be very cool if you turned the van into the tow vehicle for when go to the track. You can put your pit bike and tools in it. Keep like 3 maybe 4 seats and take out the rear bench seat out. Just a idea.
@SGIABC7 жыл бұрын
.0015" is one and a half thousandths of an inch, not .015". If your main bearings had a .015" oil clearance, you would have a grenade of a bottom end, and possibly valve to piston damage depending on the camshaft lift. As a machinist, this just bugged me. Haha. Nice video man!

Just for good measure you should always face gudgeon pin circlip open ends facing down. The theory is that oil can pool in the slot at the bottom and create a hydraulic effect when engines running that will sometimes help un-seat the clip.

Balance shaft delete. You can do it cheap with some aluminum plugs. Push them into the oil pump seal them up with some hondabond, port the pump. Less rotational mass. More power, faster revs, more oil pressure. Slightly more vibration. Because raceca...van.
@davidjamison22947 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you already use the mechanical tentioner for your timing belt on those blocks but I learned a lesson a long time ago not to use the hydraulic tentioner for the h22a they give out way faster just figured I'd share wisdom

ring orientation doesnt matter , just put them 180. they rotate in the bore , you can never keep them from lining up at some point
@802Garage7 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered about that, never researched it though. Probably mostly important for bedding in.
@cleevtbc82737 жыл бұрын
I hope this is a joke
@J-Eagan7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve heard that from a machinist too
@Ryanisawesome1237 жыл бұрын
rings rotate in the bore together at the same speed so orientaion is always the same, only time theyll line up is when the bore is out of round. if ring orientation didnt matter and they lined up your engine would not run
@802Garage7 жыл бұрын
It would still run. That's the whole point of setting ring gaps is so they close up properly after expanding from heat. Might lose some compression from them being lines up, but not all.

If there's no marking on the top compression ring, it's tapered side up, the combustion pushes the rings outwards and the taper helps exhaust gasses get into the piston ring groove to help the ring expand and seal the cylinder. Also your hands should be squeaky clean, better to wear gloves, you do not want dirt settling in the cylinder.
