Keith, Your right the boot floor repair panel is a lot of work but a lot less work than the whole boot floor in one go. I did the same job on my Cooper some years ago and watching the video brought it all back lol. Cheers Dave

Nice repair Keith and not an easy one to do. Completely agree about the bodges keeping the cars on the road, I touched on this at the start of my project with Angus, had these cars not been bodged to keep them on the road then we wouldn't have them today to enjoy

For future reference, the curvature of a panel is known as ' Tumblehome', I think! Loving your vlogs. 👍👍

Nice job, its not easy fitting a cut out panel like that, I have welded many classic cars and your right when you say cut back to good metal. I am a welder by trade and quite enjoy doing cars, i find it satisfying bringing an old car back to life.

Another master class in how to un-bodge and de-rust. The comment of bodies gave cars enough life to escape the crusher is quite astute. Looking forward to the next session.

If you and Mark don't need the top part of that rear quarter panel, I'd bloody love it and will 100% use it on my mini, mine is all corroded around the bottom edge of the window and was going to fabricate something but the shape will be a real pain.

No problem mate. Mark has them at the moment. I've let him know that you would like the top parts

Your comments regarding old, and fairly worthless cars, being bodged simply to pass the MOT years ago, are spot on! Our 1971 Mini 1000 is a case in point. When we bought it in 1986 it was worth very little, and would probably have been scrapped had we not purchased it, but we invested a few quid, and it was my wife’s everyday car up to the mid ‘90’s. I carried out a major rebuild around 2000, but unfortunately not to a very high standard, not knowing how much good Minis were going to be worth 20 odd years later! So, another rebuild (code name - Project Gherkin!) to a much better standard has just started, with your videos as my main inspiration! Good on you!

Interested as we left the arch to floor brackets in place to locate the subframe mounts in a new floor, looking forward to seeing how you get those holes back in the same place.

An idea came to me for your next project. Buy a car, do it up, like Bruce, then sell it on eBay - auction it off with a starting price of the cost to do it (plus selling fees). Have a link in the auction to your videos - increasing your audience/ subscribers. Anyone who watches the videos will know what a great deal it is. And you’ll make some very well deserved extra revenue and another mini will be saved.

Good idea, I might do that for the next project.

Had exactly the same problem with the fit of my Magnum boot repair section made worse by the fact that the profile of the corner repair panels below the lights needed reshaping and they didn't line up with the holes in the boot repair panel.

It wears me out watching the amount of fabrication and welding you’ve done so far on this mini, I really like the way you do things though and totally agree with butt welding the panels and not overlapping, if you’re going to the effort of all that work you want it to last a long time.

Another great video. I did the boot floor section on the budget clubman with one of those panels and yeah it’s a big test of skills, the panel really doesn’t fit well. But with some hammers and time it soon comes together 👍

Ah yes that rear outer wheelarch panel ..... Well M'lud .... Basically it was brain fade after a very long day of fabricating. I just needed the outer bit of the LH wheel arch so I measured it, cut it and then realised I had cut the RH one...... 😡 But it sort of served a purpose as I realised you can't actually fit the outer wheelarch panels in the car because of the inner seam and damper support. So I bought two complete wheelarches and they went in some time ago with little bother. As for that boot floor panel I bought it before I really understood how much of the boot floor was rotten. So I bought a complete Heritage boot floor and that was really not too difficult to fit. As I have said before I am OK welding in complete panels but doing the repair panels as you do is just beyond my comfort zone at present. Same with the Heritage rear lower half panel rather than try a repair on the lower boot seam. Not that there was one! Project Bruce is exactly what I hoped all those bits would be used for. Great content, saved you some cash and another Mini saved with some excellent work. Its even got the fuel tank! Noah has the MPi type as I am using the BMW fuel injection.

Thanks mate, yes, I've managed to utilize most of those parts you gave me. It's probably saved c.£300 on the budget so far!

13:00 My repair panel was completely flat to. I've ended up lead loading it. I enjoyed that, found it so easy i ended up lead loading other parts of the shell. The small triangular section is available from M-Machine. 16:36 i have one of those boot repair sections i purchased 30 years ago. You could have had it if you'd have asked 😛

Project Bruce is so similar to what I'm doing with velma. I struggled so much with the boot floor section 😩. Yours looks like it fits a little better than mine. Mine doesn't reach to the lower part of the qtr panel which is slightly annoying. Loving the running commentary 👌🏻.

It's worth doing if you can do it yourself. Invest in a hobby welder like a Clarke 135TE and with a bit of practice you will soon pick it up. If you are paying someone to do it, it's probably going to cost more than the value of the car unless it's something special like a Cooper or LE
