I can't believe I watched that entire video. What does restore mean to you? I was expecting to see you re-stitch them, re-sole them, do things like that, not just clean and condition them. I hope you take a beat up old rusted out car on its last legs to a restoration shop and they give it a wash and wax job. and give it back.

I like the idea for restoring the boots for a battered look. I don't think that I could bring myself to put my foot in a boot used by another man, just the thought of all the sweat, funk and foot fungus that has been living in those boots for years 🤣🤣🤣. Put them in shoes trees use a decent cream then heat the wrinkles out with a heat gun while on the trees. After you get the wrinkles out apply a quality shine and nourish cream and it comes out looking used but more presentable. The original laces made better sense. Too many colors for a brown boot. Remember ladies look at your shoes. If your single she'll think you just got your worn out boots wet and added black laces to make it worse.

I mix saddel soap with water and with a round horse hair brush it becomes soapy and it really makes the thread white again on the boot it even brightens up the lil flag logo, but before that i use the brush to brush off the dirt, but the saddel soap mixed with water really cleans the leather good after i wipe that off the boots tend to dry fast on there sides rather than standing up, then i put the mink oil on and brush it with another shoe brush after i brush it in good wipe some water just alil not too much on the boot it seals oil and makes the boot water repelant, something my uncle showed me yrs ago, but there are many different ways even a shine but to each there own

Lejames Bron thanks for sharing that into. Yeah as long as you maintain your leather boots they should last you also depending on the work you do or say you were a certain kind Daily plus how long your soles last you then you need a resole/stitching, imo I think Georgia boots there soles last alot longer than some of the other boot brands I have.

Good Video my man. One thing I always do with used boots is to insert a heavy duty shoe tree in the boots, then get a 5 gallon bucket with slightly warm water and Murphy's oil soap and let them soak in there for a couple of days. Cleans the boots very well, and the extended soaking with the shoe tree pretty much reforms the boot so the front is not "talking to you" quote en quote. Just a tip so we can all learn from each other.

Ousama Abdu what's the ratio of Murphy to water? That sounds like a good plan.
@ousamaabdu794
@ousamaabdu794 6 жыл бұрын
What's going on Brian. I recommend about 1 cup of the oil soap. Also add a little baking soda and powder ajax to the mix, about a couple of oz baking soda and maybe an oz of Ajax. Also, to get the heel squeaky clean, spay it with Awesome brand degreaser. Let that sit and wipe it with a towel. Then make a paste with ajax and dish soap, cover the heel with that mix, then scrub all of the debris off with a little water added. Do that prior to inserting the boots in the water/oil soap. After the boots are out of the water, it will take a a couple of days to dry indoors, or a day or less outdoors depending on the weather. Once dry, you can either polish to the finish of your choice, or if suede or nu-buck, use the brush and eraser. Also, for laces I soak them in a small jar with soapy water and a touch of bleach, wring them out, then after dry I touch them up with a hot iron for added crispiness. Good to go after that my man!

Best stuff to restore/maintain leather is from a company called Garrison Leather Care. Their website has a before and after on the main page of a restored boot. I had a neglected LL bean bomber jacket that was worn in the rain and snow one too many times, and probably dried too quickly. It was on the edge of getting cracked as the suppleness was gone. I bought their three products on Amazon, and holy moly the thing is damned near like new. The only difference was it was darker, but I'm sure that's from the oils soaking back in.

My dad has been doing this to his shoes for 60 years. But long before the show got so worn out. The problem I see is we have become a throw away country. We rather buy something is to use and cheap and throw it away when we are done with it. Back after the depression when people bought stuff they needed it to last. They put the work into making it last. That dollar they spent on the shoe got stretch out over the years. But that created a problem. Less stuff was being bought. So company's cut quality just enough that customers would buy. But cheap enough not to take care of it and just replace them when worn out. The throw away nation has begun. Now the company's making good products fall to the way side. Why because the customer buying there product is taken care of and that company don't sell as much of there product and go out of business. Cheap products lazyness is the cancer of America!! The sad part is quality stuff from the past has been so long past that the young people don't know what quality is except for the ones that the parents or grand parents that have showed them and taught them about taken care of stuff.

Great thx. When you show products, dont shake them around, hold them still for the camera a couple of seconds is all thats needed... So annoying. X

+bearwoodcarpentry at what point do you feel it's the worst? So I can go back and make some notes on my actions. Or is there a few? If you could mark the times for me that would be awesome.

Guys, get a boot tree and use saddle soap after dry brushing all loose dirt off. Once your boots are dry then add boot oil or conditioner. Your boots will look amazing and as they dry the boot tree will help those toe creases flatten out.

This is how NOT to clean your boots. If your face is dirty do you just brush it with a paint brush and then throw a bunch of moisturizer on it? Lol

Just came across your channel today as I have a new found obsession for leather boot craftsmanship. I have to say you are almost a boot demi-God and I very much appreciate your time and effort I to your reviews and advice. Great videos!

great vid... glad to see you use leather agents and elbow grease instead of some short cut spray on chemical crap that will actually hurt the leather in the long run.... mink oil is my go to leather agent but you made those boots look great with your choices !

I use a nylon wire wheel on my Makita impact drill to clean the soles. Comes out like brand new ,less effort than sandpaper

Please stop shaking the boot around like a rag doll while you're talking. We would like to see the boot more closely. Thank you.

After I thoroughly cleaned my boots ,I use a hairdryer to lightly warm my boots to accept the rejuvenating oils...used this method for the last 20 years on my W C Russell boots.

Dude don't talk so much just want to see how you bring them back to life. While I was watching your video it was annoying that you spoke so much, and I thought maybe it was just me. However, when I read the comments I realized that many others felt the same way.

Just use saddle soap and mink oil. There's no need to buy a bunch of fancy creams.
