I have had a very few lessons of Tai Kwan Do, just barely enough to know how careful these people are being. And also a tiny clue how much time they spent perfecting this. I can remember quite well how hard it can be to almost punch a wall, but stop just before actually hitting it, over and over and over... It looks easy until you have to do it yourself. I don't remember why I was supposed to almost punch the wall, that was more than 30 years ago. I DO remember the respect I learned for martial arts. Not just one kind, all of them. Even this spoof took more time, effort, and skill than most people realize.

I didn't have the punching (but not contacting) the wall in my Uechi Ryu training, but I imagine it was an exercise on control so you know how to pull a punch if you decide that is warranted last second. Nothing worse than overcommitting to a strike and your opponent is able to take advantage of the momentary loss of control.

Yeah, there is something worse. When someone does a weird movement in a social setting that accidentally triggers your muscle memory. Like, say nonspecifically for example when a drunk asshat shaking your hand too hard because he feels impossibly outclassed & jealous of you when someone behind him calls him by name. Then as he turns while still doing the powers shake your muscle memory thinks he's going for a throw so you put him ass over tea kettle right over the bar breaking a thick pained mirror & thousands of dollars of booze in the process. All before your sometimes thinking brain has a chance to gage the situation & lock the impulse down. Yknow. Nonspecifically. Hypothetically.

The only problem I have with the action sequence at the end is that the master didn't attempt any more boots to the head himself, merely dodging students' boots to the head so they would boot their fellow students in the head instead.

Maybe in-universe, he wanted to get his point across by physically trashing the students instead of relying solely on the Boot to the Head. But the (possible) real explanation is, dusting four guys in a few seconds lacks the impact of nut shots and 3 Stooges eye gouges. 😀
