Good information. I have always used a five times rule for 90% of the stuff I buy and sell. I also always buy stuff I like just in case it doesn't sell.

I volunteered to help the store on a Saturday, just so I could see what people were buying. The owners were happy to have me help, and they were going to implement a volunteer day for vendors if they wanted to help. Most of them do.

When listing vintage things like the Vicks and Nozema, you can use the word 'prop'. Movie companies buy them. Another reseller mentioned she sold an old hair spray to a movie company to use as a prop.

I just recently found your channel and I can tell that you are very smart about reselling and you are a hard worker. I've had my booth for a little over three years. Thanks for sharing the tips! By the way your booth is incredible! My space is a fraction of that size but we have a good store owner and she really promotes the shop. She started having live sales on Mondays when covid first started and they were such a great success so she still has them. I like making up a box lot for the sale occasionally when I have some items that hasn't sold. Good luck with your business!

I realize this video was posted 2 years ago, but I wanted to comment about the postcard price. In our area, vintage postcards typically start at $3. and go up. Even new post cards are going for $2. and more. Are they selling at those price, yes they are. Eastern NC 3/12/24

Thanks! I love the flying pig. Bundling books is something I will try in the future. I’m surprised you didn’t mention auctions as a way to pick things up. I do them online and have a couple auction houses where I do get lucrative deals on certain items. At times though I have to bid against rabid collectors on items, and then I get out. Also in auctions I only buy what I KNOW I can resell because maybe they are more of a make or break situation. For me I sometimes price high in the mall, and wait for the big dealers to go through the mall and shop--on things that I am not sure about. I have let things go for ridiculous low prices to big dealers because of lack of research. In fairness to customers and in wanting to SELL I do lower prices as appropriate.

Thank you soooooo much! Pricing is my hardest part of business! It’s, particularly, difficult because we use pallet wood, (free) and I hand paint items. My husband and friends think I under sell items but when I’d place them in the booth, they’d sit til the end of season sale. At flea markets, people would dicker pricing. I love the “doing” and have very little $ involved and people don’t want to pay for your time and talent. Any ideas on my pricing items? I’m so thankful for your 3 Xs rule for thrifted items!!!

I price my pieces based on what I see in my mall (some other furniture artists are in the mall, too). I also think about the time and effort and what I paid. I figure cost of supplies + what I paid + hours of work. I usually figure $20 per hour (or more if it was a big chore). Since I paint so many pieces I have found my usual prices and go from there. If it is a crazy awesome piece or a ton of work the price goes up. I also ask other dealers for price suggestions when I am stumped. Oh and if I love it ....the price might be a little higher. :-) Hope this helps. Best of luck.

1st time here. Am now I new subscriber. Love the rule of 3. Im interested in renting a booth in an antique/ Collectibles shop. Any tips on how to approach the owner, rental pricing etc. My items are small and some home made. Would appreciate any advice. A bit nervous but am excited. Thanks!
@theturnedleg
@theturnedleg 2 жыл бұрын
Just do it. Ask at the front desk about information on booth rental. Remember part of their business comes from the booth owners. They want you there. All malls have information on spaces, fees and rules. Be prepared to write down what you are told and shop around a bit to find the perfect place. Fear is good. It tells you that you are on the right track. Do the scary things to grow your business.

I would have enough items to fill the booth before I started it. You can map it out with tape and home and see where to go from there. You want to have enough to sell to pay for your rent and maybe a little (or a lot) of profit.

TY. I enjoyed the video, and would love more on the topic. I've been selling in booths for over 40 yrs, but am still always learning. I don't find many videos that share not only what items are popular in other areas, but more importantly the general selling prices. Last month I opened a new booth in a different state, so have a new pricing structure to figure out. What do you all dislike most...cleaning and prepping items or researching and pricing them?

How do you log free stuff people give you, so you know how to prep the info for tax season? Do you guesstimate the value, and count it as a gift? Or just count it as free, and pay taxes on the full amount?

Hi. Happy to have found d your channel … I was born and raised in MI - currently living in AL with a booth space. I do receive a lot of freebies. How do I price those items since the 3x rule doesn’t really apply? Thanks again for your insight.
@theturnedleg
@theturnedleg 3 жыл бұрын
I get freebies, too. It is a great way to make 💯 percent profit. Price them based on what they are selling for in your area and enjoy all the extra profit. The 3x’s rule should be 3x’s or MORE. Always price what you can get…even if it is a little higher.

Thanks for all these amazing tips! Question: if you're accounting for the cost of paint, booth rental, booth fee, and taxes, does the [initial price x 3] still apply? Or how do you factor in that into the price. Ty!
@theturnedleg
@theturnedleg 2 жыл бұрын
Usually you can charge more than suggested retail to help counter those costs and shipping. My loose rule is in my situation if retail is double wholesale it is good for me to make profit…but there are a bunch of factors to consider.

Here is where I get stomped! So you paid 2.00 for the candle holders. If you multiply it x3 is 6.00 for the set, yet you are selling the set for 12.00. I get lost there! How do you go from 6.00 to 12.00? I don't have the confidence to set my prices too high in fear that I will scare off my customers with sticker shock! I saw this happen to my friends Antique store! They were only open a year and that was because of the contract!
@theturnedleg
@theturnedleg 7 ай бұрын
You need to figure out what items sell for in your area…that varies greatly. When I buy I think can I get 4-5x’s that. If not I don’t buy. Look at other antique malls and see prices…learn as much as you can. Buy low. Sell high …or you won’t pay your expenses.

My Husband and I want to open our own booth. I have two questions. 1: How much inventory should we place in our booth to start? We also do crafts and woodworking. 2: Assuming that an item isn't a valuable product, is it a good idea for resale to fix up, repair, to give it a fresh new look?

Ultimately, these are questions you will answer as you have a booth. You get on-the-job experience of what works and what doesn't. I try to fill my booth with as much as possible, remember smalls make the rent and try not to make it look too junky. I do have a booth owners private FB membership group where you can ask questions and we have weekly lives on a variety of topics to help you with your booth, display, social media and make sales.
