I've been watching and listening to your videos on booths. I'm opening a store in our town and it's going to be for booth rentals to help our local crafters sell their items. It's not antiques (the antique store is right next door) and it's not vintage, it's a collection of handmade items with some of my own thrift flips and farmhouse items. I'm learning a lot from you and I appreciate all of your advice and tips. Thank you

Just to encourage others to up the ante on faux florals and greens, Sullivans and Kalalou have exceptional quality as Melanie said. Don't be afraid of the price point. I have bought from both companies for 10 years and my customers now know the difference between quality and cheap. And remember the cheap plastic will not achieve to look you want for your space. I am a small, small shop and I need to be careful of where my money goes. Thank you Melanie for great information!

You’re so right… we sometimes feel the need to be the “low price leader” with our businesses, but there are customers out there who are happy to pay a higher price point for better quality. It’s about deciding who your target customer is and how to best serve them :)

Hi Melanie, Just found and subscribed to your channel. After living in one state for my whole life, my husband, son and I just moved to a new state. Decided to hold back on vendor events and concentrate on the house & property. But will be working on painting, thrifting project in mean time. But like you have said, then I will be more prepared to stage my booth & etc. Thank you for your info and kind demeanor.

I get my greenery/fake flowers for my booth, at the Goodwill Outlet AKA The Bins. It’s pretty much free because you pay by weight. And yes! They buy it! I just sold a vintage teapot that was missing a lid. Put some daisies in it and it magically becomes a vase!

Idk if youve ever watched upcycled by Bri, but she has an awesome video on cleaning thrifted florals. You also can paint florals. Ive seen some spray painted but they make spray paint especially for faux florals.

Great information, I wish I could have seen the prices. Can you say what percentage discount wholesale usually is?
@LostFoundDecor3 жыл бұрын
Usually it’s half of the posted retail price :) Sometimes it’s lower than that though!

Hi Melanie. Just found your channel and really appreciate all the info. I've had a booth for 18 months and the problem I have with the greenery/florals is this. If I add greenery to a planter (or even something that is not a planter) just for "fluff" as you say, do I put one price on it including the greenery? Or do I price each (planter & faux plant) separately? What if I put one price for both but the "planter" is actually a pitcher and the buyer doesn't really want the greenery? Then will they likely pass on it altogether because its too expensive? I try to use thrifted greenery and flowers just because I am unsure about the pricing and I figure if I lose the value of the flowers - it's not that big a deal. But if I go to the new, more expensive greenery, I wouldn't want to sell for pitcher only price and they take the greenery as well. So I am conflicted. Can you help?
@LostFoundDecor2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely put a price on both, if you’re buying nicer greenery pieces. Sometimes people want both, sometimes they just want one or the other. So I would price both and maybe add on the item tag “greenery sold separately” 😊

Do you sell the greenery and florals as part of a vintage vessel price or with a separate price tag? What has worked best for you? Thank you
@LostFoundDecor2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Unless they are made as one solid piece (some I’ve bought are already mounted in pots), I price them separately. I’ve seen people just what the greenery, or want the vase, or both. So it seems best to give options :)

Hi Melanie. Love your videos....they are super informative! When you say sell and item for 1.5 times what you paid for it.....do you mean, for example if I pay $10 for an item, I should sell it for $10 + $15 (1.5 x's) = $25 ?
@LostFoundDecor3 жыл бұрын
Yes, at LEAST! That’s what I shoot for with wholesale, with items I pick and find, I try to price at least 3x’s cost

Hello, can you please tell again what tax I should have to shop wholesale on kalalou website?

It’s your state sales and use tax, or reseller ID. Every state calls it something different

What is the difference between a resellers licence (Sales tax license)...and a TAX ID ? Because i have a resellers license but since i am a sole proprietor i use my SS# as my tax id. Do I still need a TAX ID?
@LostFoundDecor3 жыл бұрын
It’s called different things in different states… Tax ID, Reseller License, Sales Tax Certificate, basically it’s just what you get with your state that allows you to purchase item for resale and not pay sales tax. Sounds like you already have what you need :)

Thank you for all your hard work and time helping us......I get paralyzed,at times because I am so fearful of failure in my new booth because we live in a very poor , rural area......I have so many different things and it is difficult for me to navigate "branding" as you have mentioned in your other video Right now , it is May 03 , and I am trying to decide a theme like maybe Garden party with vintage lilly Pulitzer dresses, and white teacart etc or once again , I'm paralyzed......❤

Being in the business for 25+ years, I always targeted the regular people who read all the magazines from Europe and here who are decorating their houses, the antique collector is the minority. I have always bought wholesale greenery, far and away NICER than any craft store. People always buy the greenery, always have. NOTHING in my shop was NFS. That's insanity. There are many it's just a tax number and a name. In NH we don't need one as no state taxes, but I have one for my fed tax. This is for beginners, right?
