The M is for macro, you can set up macros (butting presses in order) that you can then use the M button on the back and it'll execute all the inputs you had programmed. I had that exact controller as a kid and it helped a lot when trying to do special moves in Marvel vs Capcom. Sorry if someone else already posted the answer to this, but just thought I'd let you know! Great video as always Ninkendo.

I remember having that Madcatz Gamecube controller with the M button. The button wasn't used in Melee, as far as I know of, but it was used in one of the Mario Party minigames where the game actually gave you a prompt to hit the M button.

Some controllers that were recognized by the gamecube don't get recognized by the wii u or similar adapters because of the way the drivers work and translation between analog and digital inputs. I have a spiderman controller that works fine when I hook it up to my wii or gamecube but doesn't work for smash 4 or dolphin.

Hey ken, another cool thing you can do is if your stuck in a jab combo (if you hold A with someone like Little Mac, you do a bunch of punches), if you spam the living hell out of the air dodge, you'll dodge the last hit.

My first smash controller was actually that black one that looked like a real smash controller for a whole year. The only reason I stopped using it was because the control stick literally disconnected from the socket it was connected to and just didn't work, but hey, it lasted a year

I bought 3 gamecube controllers all 3 of em broke then I gave up and switched to wiimote+nunchuk (the left joystick broke everytime after like 2 weeks and I didnt even mash at all)

I don't have a real one, but the 3rd party ones I do have work for me. They're mostly generic, but they do have Turbo and Slow buttons. They work perfectly fine, although I don't have a Wii u/PC adapter, so I just use them with my Wii/GCN games.

I had one of those Mad Catz GameCube controllers. The M (Macro) button was extremely useful for Megaman X: Command Mission, as it requires massive amounts of mashing. Unfortunately, the Macro function stopped working after the controller fell off a shelf. The controller became completely unusable when the L Trigger eventually stopped working. In total, it lasted a decade of sparce use, and rapidly declined once I started using it often. I also had a bootleg GameCube controller that died after one day of use. I plugged it in for two minutes to test it, and it worked fine, but when I tried it the next day, one of the prongs was missing from the connector.

I actually own a MadCatz controller and I've had it for years The M button has no function, but the middle button below the start button (called Macro) glows when you press it, and then you can spam the same input by just holding down the button you're using! Then you can shut off Macro by pressing that button again. It's fun to use, actually, but recently the controller had a piece fall off inside it. It still works perfectly fine... But it makes a noise when it rumbles. Anyways, I had no idea it was a bootleg controller. It works just as fine as my real GameCube controller. MadCatz isn't all that bad at making knockoff controllers.

4:44 MadCatz is known for its cheap quality. Or rather WAS known. They've since went out of Business. For their price and quality, MadCatz controllers actually aren't too bad at all. Especially compared to the other options you've shown. The 'M' Button is for the 'turbo,' which is basically an auto-multi-press. 6:52 That reminds me of Rock Candy controllers, specifically the Afterglow ones. They don't make Gamecube controllersm though...
