Bootleg & Ungrounded 3-Prong Outlets

You are a wealth of knowledge. I had no idea that you could use a GFCI breaker on a 2 wire circuit like that. I realize it would be better to pull new wire with ground, instead of the GFCI breaker. You caught my attention when you mentioned something about a sump pump and a GFCI not being a good idea? Since a sump pump is around water, it would seem to be a good idea to have a GFCI circuit, or outlet. Could you explain that a little? Thanks!

TY, appreciate it! As far as the sump, GFCI's are mechanical devices and will often stick, malfunction, etc. I see it all the time. It's not worth it to risk, IMO, with a sump pump (of course, there should be a back up system, but many people around here don't have back up sump systems, believe it or not). Same thing with a refrigerator, freezer, etc. I don't even want them on my garage door opener. I will say the newer GFCI's are much, much better than the older ones, and don't seem to "fail" nearly as much. Hope this helps & thanks again for watching and the comment!

@@nwohiohomeinspector Thanks. Makes total sense. I just figured that since a sump pump involved water, that code would require a GFCI breaker or receptacle. Sounds like it doesn't.
