Fun fact! "Brut" is French for "gross", but it's also a term for dry champagne (that is to say, a champagne with very little to no residual sugar.) So yeah, he's named after booze, which IS pretty dumb. But then Punch-Out, which was in arcades that same year, had a character named Vodka Drunkenski...

I actually remember owning one or two of the "Wrestler" figures back in the day. I remember the cloth vests and champion belts and swapping them around. I also remember smaller figures, about half the size of these, using pretty much the same mold, just scaled way down. I'm not sure if they were also part of the "Galaxy Hole" or not, but they may have been.
@hypnotised-clover3 жыл бұрын
That might possibly be "Treasures of those lost temples warriors", a really small version of the Galaxy Warriors, but I've never seen a wrestler version of that line, it probably does exist.

Interesting is these figures probably would have worked with AWA wrestling figure line from 80s considering they were about the same.
@HonestUAWElectrician4 жыл бұрын
Trust me they did. I had damn near the entire AWA line and got these knockoffs all the time at pharmacies and discount stores. One Christmas my brother found a set from Sparkle with 4 wrestlers, belts, and a ring. Same body molds as these and worked well. Just had to get creative with some the names.

I remember those toys when I was small boy in the early 90's. I only got few Wrestler KO Toys at the 99 Cent Store and some shops back then. Didn't collect them all. In the early 90's, I didn't like WWF Hasbro Action Figures. It wasn't for my taste, only Wrestler KO Toys but I did got three WWF Wrestling Buddies of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior. Later on Jakks did better with WWF/WWE Action Figures, then Mattel too.

I had a Mr. Unknown as a kid, slightly different from the ones you're showing. He was painted closer to Mask than the Mr. Unknown you're showing, but with the head having a slightly more greenish tinge, missing the chest tattoo and didn't come with a vest. I believe he came on a card similar to the one at :37 but I could be mistaken on that memory. I do remember there was no "Mask" on his cardback, the only one with his mold was Mr. Unknown (though I distinctly remember A. Champ being there too). I do remember than when I used him with my Remco wrestlers, I pretended he was the Missing Link (Dewey Robertson).

I had some wrestling figures that were very similar to these as a kid. I remember getting some of them at dollar stores. I would use them as jobbers in my wrestling figure matches. One really weird figure I remember was a wrestler with a black guy’s head on a white guy’s body. And it wasn’t just a one off mistake. They had a bunch of them at my local dollar store. I can’t find any evidence online of this figure existing, but it definitely did.

It's funny that these knockoffs of MOTU figures into wrestlers exist, because the official Remco AWA (American Wrestling Association) figures from the early 80s were basically just knockoff MOTU figures with (mostly) accurate wrestler headsculpts and none of the fantasy loincloths.

How do the rubber-bands on the figures hold up? I'd imagine thirty year-old rubber-bands break real easily, even out of the box. That'd be a funny moment in the final bit. "Oh, no! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿80s babies who were wrestling fans who spent any time in the discount store remembers asking their parents for these lol. Some of the Masters of the Universe mold toys also had a wrestling ring that you could buy. My little brother had one. If I had a large house with a storage room that I could convert into a mini "museum" for collectibles I'd probably try to track down these types of figures for display

I had Eyepatch dude but with a darker colored pair of trunks. He was my top heel. I had 2 guys who were probably based on Paul Orndorff but looked more like Dudley Moore. Had a couple more that were def Hogan ripoffs. There were some other guys too. But seeing this video made me wish I had em all lol. Whenever the belts they came with broke or got lost, we'd use aluminum foil to make mini belts(and got yelled at for it) As Trolls became popular in the 90s, there were action figures with troll heads and the Masters of the Universe style body mold. I had one w Desert style military fatigues and a blonde Guile from street fighter type blonde hair. My brother had one w green army jungle fatigues and long purple troll hair. Both came with weapons. Similar thing for ninjas as they became popular. There were toys w the same style body mold except the legs were more straightened.

I know I'm probably several years late to tell you, but I'm pretty sure Ivan the Snake Man's mask design is a knockoff of the main character from the Kinnikuman series of anime and manga (likely best known in the west as M.U.S.C.L.E.), both being pale-colored with "lips" around the mouth holes, and a sort of knight's crest on top. This gets funnier when you realize Kinnikuman's design is a parody of Ultraseven,.
