Cold feet suck. I live in NC and was raised in SC. We never had freezing winters. It did freeze sometimes but only for short amounts of time. In the Lowcountry of South Carolina during winter the temps fluctuated between 45-70 degrees. You would have to be extremely flexible everyday. The few times my feet froze were enough to make me never want to live up north. In my early adult years I was an active duty Marine serving in North Carolina. So many cold days in the field and on the rifle range lead me to believe I was inches away from frost bite. Before I retired from the Corps I deployed to Norway for about a month. We went above the Arctic Circle to the North Pole. I felt real cold for the first time while I was up there. Beautiful visit there and it made me believe that I wanted to live up there. I didn't go back but I will never forget my time up there. Stay frosty Woniya.

I have that problem with most rubber or neoprene boots and and then a lot of them don't have any support and my ankle but if they do have ankle support you can't get them on and off that I almost wish they would have more of a lace-up part of the boot. Because here in Wisconsin you end up wearing waterproof boots a lot of the year around where I live especially if you spend any time out a field. A lot of the Pacific northwestern told me you're better off with an all-leather boots that is waterproof really well

Those are really cool boots. Hopefully I will be able to make them one day. I like xtra tuffs, they have removable liners too. Spent a summer in Alaska and realized how important they were.

I certainly wish I had brought my xtra tuffs instead of the others for my water proof pair!

I had the contractor Derrick boots made by Baffin just storing them in my apartment closet the rubber tops cracked they were like having concrete blocks on my feet. I just bought the arctic steger mukluks -40 what there rated for and happy to support a 100% USA company got extra 9mm thick liners and in-soles to switch out. Got the arctic do to the aggressive tread pattern, which my tall UGGs don't made from Australia. And steger mukluks have a full elk upper that's rated for -30 that I was willing to buy. They said being there light weight and the flexibility is what gives it the high - rating number but they are only a freezing temps boot

Love your boot design there's sweet. I heard the show alone I don't watch the but think I have allot of the same interests.

Buckskin Rev in the 'old' days men used a solid felt tall shoe with felt soles (looked exactly like a leather shoe shape wit tall galoshes buckled as an over boot (you would love them i think), you can feel a stick under your feet...these would work well with a snow shoe or with muckamucks inside or liners or both...some of the snowshoeing companies (channels ) have great solutions ...survival russia shows an over boot that they use as well...i am hooked because of your information and will be making buckskin this year and from now on...Creator bless Lady...doug (central canada)

that's exactly what my homemade system was, a felt boot to the knee with a fur ruff that went to mid thigh, then an over boot.

@@BuckskinRevolution except for the ones you made are beautiful too, haha...the rubber lightweight over boots would be loose in warmer conditions (with less liner) and that might not appeal to you tho..the 'happy people' documentary (winter one) shows a great moose hide trapper's ski/snowshoe (i wonder if you have seen it?)....doug

Tim Smith of Jack Mountain Bushcraft promotes a simple rubber over shoe/boot with a felt liner, easy on and off, allows the felt to come out and dry, this could double as cold/dry and especially cold/wet environment. Sam Larson attended his school. I use this over boot and felt liner with felt soles for more added insulation from the frozen ground and it works fantastic, the set up is also cheap.

I'd be curious to know more about the style he likes. i ordered and tried out several pairs like what you describe and none felt like they were secure and snug enough to walk a lot easily in, nor high enough quality to bring somewhere my life might depend on them. it's a great idea of a system though- it's exactly what i was trying to replicate with the lightweight boots with liners i brought, but the rubber quality was just too poor to be functional

@@BuckskinRevolution My last pair of over shoe/boots were military surplus. I am still looking for a good pair, the military surplus ones wear out in a season and will leak and thats no fun at all. Also the soles need to be smooth as the heal is cast in rubber and there is a transition which is odd to feel under you foot in many over shoe/boots. The surplus boot didn't have that problem. I have also tried NEOS with some success. New England Over Shoes, costly and on the heavier side, and a bit gobby.

Daoka Rubber Boots without the steel toe... Through some studs in them on the outside edges. Best boots I've found. Good to minus 27 . I wear them Snowmobiling in minus 25. Making my own wind chill of minus 80.

Years ago when I worked on the oil rigs in winter (Canada Cold) I put these in my rubber boots "Men's Bama Boot Liner Socks" To the best of my recollection they worked great. The thing with having the shaft of the boot filled with OTC socks & OTC liners limits the ability of the moisture to escape from the boot cuz it's packed in there. As does tucking your pants in the boot or for that matter over the boot... My 2c❗ Did you ever (after the fact) figure out a pair of rubber boots that may have worked better for you❓

Acton Prairies, only available in Canada, are my new favorite rubber boots for cold weather! Removable liners, tu bet that status flexible at cold temps, very wide and comfortable so the toes and foot muscles can move for warmth and good circulation!

Nick Casolino ive has many pairs when i lived in Ontario and Vermont and up by the Quebec border in New York. They were okay, but neither comfortable not particularly warm for me. definitely not my preference, and my understanding going in was that i'd be wading through muskegs, so wanted a fully waterproof boot.
@BuckskinRevolution5 жыл бұрын
Not sure where your message asking if i'm Québécois went, but i read it in my inbox before it disappeared. By blood, yes, 50%. My great grandparents emigrated to New England to work in the woolen mills there, and apparently did there best to assimilate so alas, my dad didn't grow up speaking french, nor did I, raised in California. pretty dang far from Quebec.

I have multiple pairs of sorels from the Pac boots to the caribou boots and some taller models. They're shit. Not to mention, haven't been made in Canada for years now... Although fully waterproof, the Caribous are WAY to heavy for any extended walking/activity, and the grip is non-existent on all Sorel boots. I've switched to Kamik last year and couldn't be happier thru a harsh Prairie winter. Amazing grip, one of the best soles I've ever had in a boot. Good warmth and when I had a small issue with one boot(which I actually ended up fixing and still wear them) , the owner of the company personally emailed me and sent me a new pair of boots no questions asked.

I like the L L Bean leather boots with rubber bottoms. You can get them with removable liners. Or....you can do as I did for years , and copy what our natives did for years. I wear my moccasins with slip on rubbers. Perfect !
