I am very confused why you chose to use the cold boot time as such a negative point in comparison to kindle? I just tested my kindle out of curiosity, and it took 90 seconds from cold boot to get back into the book (45 secs for my Boox Page). The entire point seems kind of misleading for people less knowledgeable about ereaders, making it seem like the device always has to be launched from cold boot rather than from stand-by within a few seconds.
@KitBetts-Masters2 ай бұрын
Thanks for this, I think that's a very fair point. Definitely I should have been clearer in that. And so your comment is very valuable for people. However, it's more a point about how generally slow the software is on the go 6. Unusual for Boox. Also, the Kindle standby mode is amazing, with such low power draw I regularly pick up Kindles after months on standby and an amazed at how they wake up in seconds and have hardly lost any battery. It's definitely something Boox can improve upon in these readers, and it's especially bad for this model!
@akosuakoranteng33272 ай бұрын
I agree with Kitt and think it’s actually a fair comparison because with Kindles they stay in standby mode unless you completely power it off and that mode draws very little battery power where as books devices stay in stand by mode for very short amounts of time after which they power off (to save battery I assume) and takes very long for them to boot back up.
@sebiF0022 ай бұрын
@@akosuakoranteng3327 That kindles draw far less power while in standby is definitely a fair point and a big benefit over the android readers. But that Boox devices fully power off after a short time is incorrect. The duration is customizable, or can be turned off entirely. On my own Page for example, it's set to 48 hours. So as long as I read every other day, I will never see the full power off screen.
@mwitalemi2 ай бұрын
I agree. If you're a regular kindle reader you'd just be on lockscreen alone and not turned off and on unlocking it would load straight into the kindle app if that's where you left off. I totally don't get what you tried to demonstrate.

I decided to buy a go 6 because it is, to my knowledge, the only small ereader that can have all ebook and audiobook apps that I use installed. I made the purchase despite not liking the small RAM, the small battery or the android 11. However, I think boox see the 6 inch ereader as their entry level product, which means they probably never will build one with more premium hardware. Even if I waited until boox releases the next 6 inch product, it probably still won’t be perfect. I have been using my go 6 for two weeks and it meets all my needs. And the only complaint is how slow it is to start the Kindle app. In a couple of instances I had to restart the device because the kindle app kept crashing.

Is it fast or slow in reading and how long the battery last?
@iamfrommercury2 ай бұрын
@@abooufomda3417 Native reading app runs really well. No lags in page turn. Kindle app is slow to start up, but once it’s running there is no further issue. There is a small lag in page turn because of page turn animation filter. Overall I would say it’s ‘fast’.

I think it’s quite disappointing that it’s not spill/water resistant. This would make a lot of sense for a small device you take everywhere you go. The Boox Go Color 7 is, so I don’t get why this one is not…

While I love my Boox 10.3 Go the slowness is also my main gripe - from opening it this morning, putting in the PIN and opening kindle app (but notes app is similar) it took 49 seconds - far from ideal if you have an idea you want to scribble down....my second issue is the fact that it arrived with 27% of the storage being used up so wondering how long its going to last (34% full now after 3 weeks-admittedly, much of that was apps as I set it up for my use and I doubt I will now be adding any more apps, just content so fingers crossed notes/docs etc don't fill it up)

@@KitBetts-Masters Interesting - I received mine and have been writing on it (keyboard) and it's been great. Speed wise it's been very similar to my Note 3 air (except startup speed). I'm guessing the Kindle app is slow (which I haven't used)... but other productivity apps have been good so far.

I wanted to buy my first ereader but not spend a lot of money, maybe around €100, for that money you get an ereader from Uncle Ali. Kobo Clara was cheapest at €139, but i wanted Android so i bought the boox go 6 for €169 (including cover). I can read and install some apps i want to use. I miss colours, but not the kaleido colours, oled colours and it's slow. The battery drains fast so that reminds me to turn of wifi everytime i read. And it's a huge fingerprint magnet. Everywhere i touch the matt screen and Matt back gets shiny. And i cannot get it clean, looks like shiny smuges.

Hi, if I’m buying my first e-ink should I buy Go 10.3 or Note Air 3C? I would use it mostly for note taking, but I think it would be great if I can use color in notes(at least I think so right now). But which has better writing feel? And which pen should I get? I don't have to possibility to test them.

As with other boox devices, you can probably set it so that it initially goes into sleep mode and only switches off completely after a few hours. This drains the battery a little more, but is much easier to handle. On the other hand, if you turn it on and off often, you also save a little battery charge because you don't have to go through the entire boot process every time you switch it on. The kindle app, the kobo app, the ... app - while watching your video, I realized once again that you don't actually own the e-books you 'buy' from Amazon or Kobo. These are real reasons to either remove DRM from your books, which is legal in some countries (most european countries). Or - if possible - only buy books without DRM in the first place. Thank goodness most publishers in Germany and most tech and science publishers sell their books without DRM, so I am very rarely confronted with the problem.

@@KitBetts-Masters How do you have the Bluetooth and wi-fi configured for standby mode? I have them configured to turn off as soon as the device goes into standby on all my Boox devices. That does wonders for the battery life. For example, I put down my Tab Ultra Pro C yesterday evening after a couple hours of reading. This morning, the device was still at 94% battery. Since I don't have notifications turned on, I don't need the device to do anything online or connect to any devices when I'm not using it, much like a Kindle would behave.
