I'm finding the Go 10.3 to be my favorite reader around the house. I have a desktop easel that supports the Go 10.3 for my breakfast and lunch reading. For more portable use and for a little reading in bed, I went for the Page -- a little more screen real estate and the page turn buttons make it an easy one-hander.

Too small for me, I'm hoping for the release of a black/white version of the Go 7, with the same kind of build quality as the go 10.3 - aluminium bezel, no front light, but with page turn buttons like the go 7. That colour screen on the go 7 is just not cutting it, I think - we need a B &W version. :) I have the G0 10.3 and it is AMAZING. But would love a smaller companion to take travelling etc.

I really enjoy this device, the first thing I did was turn off the floating widget and a few other options. It feels like a device that was capable until they threw on ai and other system apps that really hold the device down. I understand a device should work well out of the box which this really teeters on not doing; but could I suggest that you Download a different home launcher (I used nova), access the full android system settings, disable the on screen widget, optimize the battery saving and restriction of apps, turn off the background sync, etc etc and try the device using it more as an android tablet reading off playstore apps? I feel like everyone just leaves on these heavy apps the device can barely handle and then push it down further with all the background apps running and syncing. It's honestly so much better of a device when you crack into the actual android system and take back control of the device.

Great advice Ash, I will definitely keep this in mind when I get my Go 6! Is installing Nova as an alternative home launcher as simple as installing a new app, or is this a more complicated process?

@ragcage it's simple, after it installs you'll press the home button and it will ask which launcher to use. Can try it out and select only once or make it default. I'm familiar with android so I'm comfortable with the os, but beyond that I can confirm from my original comment, deleting the ai and boox homescreen from my device (through ADB) really sped it up.

@@KitBetts-Masters Actually, I'm already testing the concept out...I breathed a little life into my Nova Air2 and set it up to match my Go 10.3. The home screen is the same (navigation bars identical, and no more NaviBall), though at this point I'm not using a 100% identical set of apps. I found a textured 7.8" screen saver from a Korean company on Amazon, so I get a better (though not identical) pen feel. During a recent 1 week road trip the use at any one time was driven by the most appropriate size. I use Evernote to connect my desktop, laptop, and and phone, so I'll be seeing how well that works on the two Boox devices. I had made my own Travel Planner/Log page template. Regarding which Android version...The Nova Air 2 did get a Boox upgrade from Android 10 to Android 11.

Love my Palma for one handed reading at night. Ordered a Go 10.3 to see if I can use it for reading/note taking more comfortably over my iPad. We will see how the Go fits in I’m also looking at the Supernote if the Go doesn’t work for me.

Its a shame that Boox originally advertised the Go 6 for Android 12 and shadow released it with Android 11. Some people's boxes still said Android 12 even. At $150 it seemed like a good secondary device but I skipped this generation, gives me a red flag feeling

I have bought this device and it was a pleasure to write on it with my bluetooth keyboard. It was not a perfect experience but awesome anyway! And kind of cheap.

​@@steverolfeca You can connect a bluetooth keyboard and write in any app you want. I used Obsidian app for this and it was nice. You can also configure screen refresh by swipe which makes writing more readable and pleasant.

Can Boox ereaders be upgraded to newer versions of Android like most Android phones, or are you stuck forever on the OS gen that shipped on the device? If it’s the latter, it seems like you will quickly begin to have issues with app functionality from deprecation. And worse, they will become less secure over time as the OS is replaced and left behind.

Pretty much stuck with the android version that ships with the device unless Onyx decides to push an update to a newer version which I don’t think they’ve done before and is unlikely due to the comparatively low spec of these ereader focused devices. App depreciation isn’t much of an issue based on my experience with my Android 10 smartphone, but yes security patches will be an issue with their Android 11 devices as it has reached its end of life and is no longer receiving them.

I’m much more excited by this release, than the Boox Palma. I rarely read more than a page or two of a book on my phone. This not only represents an alternative to closed ecosystems like Kindle and Kobo- it’s a more efficient way to expand your e-ink use beyond bookstores and note-taking. It’s about time!

This is good timing. My wife's Kindle Paperwhite is dying and she'd love to have something similar in her hands. This would be better since she can still read her Kindle books via the app, but she can also check books directly out from the library with the Libby app and no longer need to sync them over to Kindle. Can't argue with the price, either.

My only critique of Boox remains that they have too dang many devices and releases😂 Great devices, though, and there seems to be something for everyone. I remain satisfied with the note series!

The Go 7 has Kaleido 3 screen (colour), while the Go 6 has Carta 1300 (black & white only). The Go 7 also has 4 GB of RAM (Go 6 only has 2 GB), stronger CPU and 64 GB of ROM (Go 6 only has 32 GB, you can use microSD with both though).

*I long for a device that is **_'really made for the pocked'_** and incorporates a small stylus that slips into the spine of the folio.* It would have a flexible screen, maybe a tuff rubber body, was monochrome and 4-5 inches, a device you really could use as a jotter when out and about with no fear of the screen cracking when you accidentally sat on the cat. 😿

What I did was get a secondary phone (Moto G Stylus) and I use it just for notetaking. I have it set to grayscale, has no SIM card and it has all notifications turned off. Best thing about doing this is that it can be incredibly cheap; since you are only using it for notetaking, you can even look for an older Note phone. I'm also still waiting for a stylus e-ink device that's the size of a phone or pocket notebook but a secondary stylus phone just for notetaking has been a HUGE life changer.

@@jeaorz Glad you found a satisfactory solution, but I'd rather stay in an e-ink ecosystem... maybe one with a cut down OS to 'encourage me to limit my jotter to notes, which upon returning home could simply hit one button and transfer it to a sibling e-ink device. Often _'good ideas'_ get cluttered, a solution might be to send it to the bigger device with a checksum of some kind, then once sent if the checksum match the larger device could return _'an okay'_ allowing jotter could delete the file/folder. At 61 I've had some great note taking devices and physical systems in my time, but the killer is often retaining vast copies of files elsewhere, because I'm fearful of deleting a copy unsure if the other exists. My relationship with electronic devices is... complicated. 🙄

Tbh, Boox devices as ereaders, not a big fan. Purchased a Boox Page for the physical buttons and the software was a clunky mess. Ended up buying a used Oasis 10th gen instead and it's been much better. I think Boox makes much better writing tablets than they do readers, imo.
