Hi Voja! Great video(s)! Thanks to you I bought a Max Lumi 2 at the end of 2022 and started combining it with your MDO 2022 and 2023. Had to overcome the copying aswel.. Anyways, I'm on the edge of buying your MDO 2023 and MMP! I haven't updated from 3.2.3 or 3.3.2 (because of the hyperlink problem) and I am wondering if you know if this 3.5 updated makes it possible for hyperlinking from PDF's (your MDO) to Notes? In the older Software version it is possible to link to documents, and I saw in one of the Boox Official Tutorials from one month ago that it is now possible to link to notes. Unfortunately hyperlinking in the older software model is only possible for actual words in the PDF document and not for scribbles or line/forms. If this was possible you really got a great powerhouse combination of your MDO and MMP being able to link to notes! So wondering if you have any intel on this or are willing to try this out?

Also just a note on your 'distraction free' comments. Of course, you are right in what you're saying, but mostly when people are talking about distraction they are referring to impulse control, rather than notifications. For many, having the ability to browse the internet, or open apps, is a distraction, the option in itself creating a mental distraction to procrastinate. It requires a level of self control that is in itself a distraction away from deeper work and focus. And for many, the only way to quiet the internal noise is to not have it available in the first place.
@MyDeepGuide Жыл бұрын
I think that building skills of impulse control and denying instant gratification are very important skills for any adult. I do understand what you are saying and I totally agree. If a person is unable or unwilling to deny themselves instant gratification and have impulse control, then definitely these things are all valid and they should be taken into consideration.
@Change-1820 Жыл бұрын
@@MyDeepGuide, I put in a more detailed response as an overall comment, but have to talk about impulse control and being an adult. I agree with you that these are valuable skills when we are talking about instant gratification. However, in some cases, this is not what is going on. A good example from my personal case would be the Samsung Fold. I got it because I thought it would make me more productive. However, I eventually dropped back to the S23 because I found that everything from the specialized apps to the fold itself (the actual tactile experience) was just a distraction. Now my phone, PC, and Supernote, serve specific purposes. Making a conscious choice to simplify your devices is a form of impulse control, would you agree?
@MyDeepGuide Жыл бұрын
As I said, I totally agree, because there are aspects that for individual reasons we either can't or don't want to ignore, but will negatively affect the impulse control. At that point, a person needs to try or decide, either change something to eliminate that aspect, or see if it's worth it to overcome it. From that standpoint, I will be changing my daily smartphone from my super versatile workhorse that I've had for now over 4.5 years, OnePlus 7 Pro, to a super small Android 12 phone. The idea is to make it physically impractical for me to respond to emails and comments on my smartphone device (due to the screen size). I have a problem that because the "support" part of my job is always in my pocket and always at disposal, I am never actually off work. And this is something I want to change. So I totally get it and agree :)

When I say distraction free, I mean, it doesn’t have the option to be distracting. Boox is natively a distracting environment as a multimedia device. The point is each person needs to understand what they really mean by wanting a distraction free environment. Because if you really want to be distraction free you’re going to have to give up a lot of flexibility with different tasks. So before buying any of these devices, take the time to write out what you’re wanting and then describe what you mean by what you wrote.

Adding a page to a pdf is a game changer. One of the reasons I bought a Tab X was for the split screen when I am doing exercises when learning a language. It's great I can just do it on one screen now by adding a new page. Still happy I got the Tab X, though. Can't beat that real estate! 😉 YES! Thank you for specifically calling out the absurd functionality of copy and paste with the lasso tool! I finally had to go to the Reddit forum to get that one answered (and yes, the use case was using your fabulous MDO to copy and paste material from one page to the next).

I absolutly love the new smart shapes + strikethrough eraser. Just two little things I would like to mention 1. As you kinda fingured out yourself throughout the video, shapes created with shape perfection (and normal shapes) can be deleted with strikethrough erase. You have to strikethrough the whole lengt of a line not just the middle part of it. 2. Unfortunately the adjustable splitview is only available on the newly released products. TU, TUC, NA2 (+) and older devices sadly don't have this function.

It's comforting listening to you saying that "they ruined the control thing"! I have this device since 2020 and I thought I had became dumb...Because from a certain point after updates...I became incapable of managing it...Terrible palm rejection, two different floating toolbars and one of them not detecting the pen...It's a pity, because in my opinion the Nova replicates my true handwriting much better than other devices like, say, reMarkable...I even considered reverting it to the factory state...We'll see if with this update (I still have 3.3.2) some improving happens. One question...Do the other Boox devices have the same issues? I figure they don't. Thank you for your videos, they are the best in this matters.

Very good point, and thank you for raising it, as I 100% agree as that was also something that I was asking for and waiting for, for a very long time. The reason I missed it was that it was not listed in the Release Notes, and I completely forgot about it being introduced here, as it was partially introduced in earlier versions of TAB OS as well, so it was a bit of a mess. so, after testing the 3C for almost 8 weeks, today I decided to switch back to the reMarkable 2. FOR ME, it feels better, is thinner, lighter, much easier to use (I do like the unified usage of ebooks, PDFs and Notebooks, one folder, almost identical tools for all of these filetypes) - the 3C is a powerhouse, for those use cases I do prefer my iPad - the RM2 is my "digital paper" - I do like it, I love to use it, while the 3C is "just another tablet". No question, the 3C is an impressive pice of hardware, but, as an eInk device as a paper replacement much to cumbersome to use.

I have got NA3C with sw 3.5. 'Automatically recognize in the background' is switched on. Finding a 7-letter word in 11 handwritten notes takes 37 seconds. Each note has a maximum of 10 words. It feels like every search involves the recognition process all over again. If you want to find some text in your work handwritten notes at least a week in advance, this tool is not for you. Unusable. But the developers promised to improve the search in feedback. I'm waiting for an update while I'm writing in a paper notebook; it's much faster to look through it with my eyes, just flipping the pages.

The performance of scrolling and pinch to zoom needs to be improved a lot (even e-ink unoptimized notetaking apps perform better in this regard). And as you already mentioned problems with the lasso selected content that you want to copy or move to different pages or layer is just super clunky. Thank you again, Voja, for a helpful summary of 2023 for Boox! I agree with you that the Palma is a highly interesting device, and I would have considered it if it had an EMR layer. I also love your reminder that Boox can be as distraction-free as others. Though I guess, depending on the person, simplified and distraction free are not always exclusive. If I simply can't find a "copy" where I'd expect it and need a few more clicks than necessary, this may distract me from my work flow somewhat. But then again, I am an Android person, I thrive on complexity ;-) I'm happy to have received the 3.5 on my Note Air 1, as those new handwriting features are amazing. I miss the Note Air when I'm on my Supernote, but their digest, starring and TOC facilities are still more important to me for writing. I wished Boox would implement those elegantly.

Boox software is not complicated, it is just extensive. You learn the pieces that are important to you and you ignore the rest until you need it. It's not unlike many other software products. You grow into it over time, but it is easy to start using with minimal effort.
@MyDeepGuide Жыл бұрын
That is not exactly true. The unintuitive aspect of Boox UI is a big problem, and unlike with other platforms, once learned knowledge doesn't necessarily stick, nor does it logically apply to different situations or tasks.. To make things worse, there are fundamental differences between the Tab and regular OS versions, so if a user has 2 devices, one with each OS type, the features and the knowledge do not directly apply, as even fundamental things, such as screen timeout settings will be in entirely different places. And finally, by the time the user does indeed get to learn how to be comfortable with the Boox, it is very likely that the new update will randomly change things to be either more or less intuitive. It's one of the biggest flaws of any Boox device, but the sheer versatility and functionality the devices offer makes it worthwhile to deal with that hindrance.
@slydog7131 Жыл бұрын
@@MyDeepGuide I have 4 Boox devices varying generations and types, and I haven't had any problems moving between them. There are some UI differences for sure, but that is easily accommodated as with any new device. I would draw a parallel between Boox software and MS Office software. Both are extensive, there is a learning curve, most never learn all, but one does learn to work effectively with the pieces needed, and as the need expands, so does competence. I do agree that consistency between devices is preferred, but I suspect that there is a reason for the differences. Ultimately, everyone will have a personalized experience, but I see nothing with Boox OS that creates an entry barrier or should discourage anyone from having multiple flavors of Boox devices.

Interesting , I do not have this "Import Font" on my Mini C, is it possible that this is only available on Android 12 devices? About the scribe through eraser, it works much better if your lines are very close, if they are far away like in your demonstration, sometimes it thinks it is just another (and possible just very ugly :D ) handwriting. Btw I turned it of because I have a Lamy Al-star with an eraser button, and most importantly it fails sometimes and it erases some text I would not like to, for example, when I would like to just correct a letter quickly, and instead of just writing over it, it is gone...

I was really hoping for a B&W version of the Air 3C but, a couple of weeks ago, the Boox KZbin channel posted a video summarizing all the products they introduced in 2023. Based on this, it seemed highly unlikely they would release any more products this year. So, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new-in-box Air2 Plus from a seller on eBay. No sooner did I make my purchase, Onyx makes a surprise announcement for the new Air 3. WTF? I would have loved to have the SD card slot and fingerprint reader as well as the faster processor but, alas, the seller doesn’t accept returns so I’m stuck with my purchase. Also, I am surprised of it not getting a 300 dpi display or why it weighs *more* than the color version.
@MyDeepGuide Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was a surprise for everyone as they have actually released (kinda quietly) earlier this week a monochromatic version of the NA3, but it doesn't have the BSR (good for battery life, bad for refresh performance), but most importantly, it doesn't have a 300ppi screen, so it's 227 ppi. The rest is the same as NA3C. shop.boox.com/products/noteair3

here is a reMarkable 2 user: I‘ve tested the 3C for a few days. You say, the 3C is two levels above the RM2 - I totally disagree. OK, the writing feeling is a little bit better (as you mentioned), a little bit, but this doesn‘t compensate the tons of disadvantages of the 3C compared to the RM2. Only a few examples: - no unified storage system. The notebooks cannot be stored together with your PDFs and eBooks. You always have to switch between Storage, Library and Notes - that drives me crazy and is very time consuming - #Tags only available for Notebook Pages. Not for PDF, not for eBoos. Not for Documents or Folders. RM2‘s #Tag system is super strong and highly underrated - Palm recognition. Oh my god. I always have to switch between different tap/gesture/toolbar position settings. I disabled, as you suggested, the one-tap-gesture. Nice. Ever tried to tap on a picture or embedded file then? - different toolbars for different file types - ever tried to lasso an annotation in a PDF oder eBook and cut/copy/paste it? in Notebook this works as expected. In PDF not. There is simply no copy/paste for annotations available. To cut your annotation you can sribble it (if it works) or have to select the eraser tool - the mobile App is a nightmare. Ever tried to read your annotated PDF or eBook documents while on the road and not having the 3C with you? (you can store your PDFs and eBooks on a Cloud storage to fix this, but then you‘ve to manage a somehow synchronization between the Cloud and your 3C - complex and distracting. - I always have to change background light and color temparatur to have good conditions. and so on and so on. The 3C is a distracting-by-design device, Flightmode or „do not disturb“ doesn‘t fix this. I write this to give some feedback for possible RM2 switchers - forget it. The easy-of-use of the the RM2 (the whole eco system) is unmatched. I just need to tap on my list of #Tags to have a shortlist to find a particular Notebook, PDF or eBook. The text recognition is pretty fast and inserts a text page into your notebook (I really miss a global handwriting search feature on the RM2 - the 3C has it, but it is super slow, it takes some time to get all pages indexed in background). After that you can simply send your notebook as a PDF incl. the textpage via email - search on your computer is easy then. On the 3C you have to setup an email account to do this…

Right, except that I was talking specifically about the writing feel and experience, and as you yourself have confirmed, it feels a little batter, the writing latency is considerably faster and it has 300 PPI B&W resolution. Everything you listed are basically the cons of their OS, something that I also consistently talk about how it is problematic and bad on any Boox device. So it seems like you may have mixed the two up a bit, which is understandable, but the reason why these things should be looked at separately is that all of the bad OS stuff can be fixed with an update, but you can't fix an inherently bad design where the hardware itself doesn't provide for a good writing feel.
