I’ve been considering a Boox larger device for a while now because I love e reading but I don’t enjoy reading on my iPad (too many distractions.) I think you’ve convinced me I need to get it!

Another excellent video, and this was right up my alley. I carry my Boox Palma nearly everywhere I go, consciously deciding to reach for it instead of my phone whenever I have spare moments at work or waiting in a queue. I also use a larger Boox tablet at home for reading on a more spacious screen. I do need to delete some apps, though, since I primarily use only the Kindle, Google News, and OneNote apps.

Even though it doesn't have a headphone jack, it does have USBC with the ability to plug in a USB-C to 3.5mm or just aa USBC headphone directly into the port. Plus, you have a MicroSD slot where you can add either 1 to 1.5TB of more additional storage over the 128GB (I've used this feature). The USBC also gives you the ability to charge using a battery pack, or to use an external flash drive with a USBC to USBA adapter/dongle, or an external SSD with mass storage, over 8TB. So you have a lot of ways to read/write tons of content with this little pocket device, lots of ways to get input and output, and you can output the video signal through the USBC to a second color monitor, if the internal display doesn't suffice. There really isn't much the device can't do. It's just how do you want to use it. And that's one of the great things with it. It gives you the choices to make them, instead of telling you what you can't do, like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc's walled gardens. This lets you enjoy all CBR, CBZ, epub, mobi, pdf, mkv, mp4, avi, mp3, aac all with this little device. So again choices are unlimited, but you can structure them for exactly how you need to use them for your use case, which I think is key to success.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite which I love, but I want the same thing in a smaller size with the option to have the Kindle, Libby, and Netgalley apps for reading on an e-ink display. Seeing you read outside with this device really had me sold on it. I don't like reading on my phone at all and this would be a nice distraction free experience. Thank you for this video! I'm definitely checking out the others videos on your channel too.

Thanks for the thoughtful review. I've been looking into the slightly larger Boox devices that are compatible with a stylus for note taking. I wasn't sure what niche a device as small as the Palma would fill, but this gives me a better idea.

Hi Ryder, love this intentionality take on the device review. I'm looking for a way to have less friction in my notetaking as I noticed I'm not using my Rocketbook as much as I want to due to the manual steps involved. So as a fellow ADHD person, I'm now looking for a distraction-free digital solution with the feel of writing with a pen. (ie; an e-ink tablet). Have you considered e-ink for notetake too? Would you do an episode on that?

these are the exact reasons why I'm thinking of getting a palma for christmas. I've tried the screentime apps, I've tried deleting social media off my phone. it has just…not worked. I eventually end up redownloading the apps, or disabling the screentime apps. and I feel like I SHOULD be able to exercise willpower but I can't. and rather than feel bad about that, I think I should just try something that meets me in the middle. I hope and think the boox palma might be just that
@HolographicCoaching28 күн бұрын
I just finished the book “Stolen Focus” by Johann Hari and can’t recommend it highly enough. He explains why we can’t exercise the willpower… over the phones. I am horrified after reading the book but am totally considering a dummy phone and a Palma. And a small camera. I already have a Kindle.
@Cynthia6363626 күн бұрын
I have a boox palma, and it's frustrating to use for anything other than reading.. if you have another phone nearby (because you need it for calling etc) it's still really hard not to just grab that one instead.. there's options out there, more expensive, that are a full phone.. I should have invested in one of those tbh
@SuperHappyNotMerry25 күн бұрын
@@Cynthia63636 I don't really use my phone much for calls so I'm hoping I can just put it in another room and be motivated to read more. I'd love to know in what ways it's frustrating for you to use though, if you'll tell me

very curious about note-focused e-ink devices - remarkable 2, boox note, supernote etc. I’m trying one to replace reams of paper but I’m also still tryign to find a process that works for me (so I’m reading your book at the same time). I’m hoping I can use one of these devices as a note taking device leveraging bujo but I don’t know if there is a need to be able to rapidly flip between pages or have it be more ‘physical’ - or whether the act of handwriting into a device (with no apps/notifications/distractions) will be enough

I want a stylus. I am looking for a device I can fit in my pocket and use as an ereader and writing tool, primarily in the kindle and android system; with the ability to also pdf annotate my documents with a stylus. I have an android tablet that is 13 inches. I need a mobile solution in my pocket. Boox or someone needs to include a stylus and make it a phone (as an eInk device). There is a space missing in the android market to match the iPad Mini. I could see myself however wanting a device that helps me better focus without distractions on a smaller screen, like a Palma 2. If Boox would have just included a stylus it would have been a day 1 buy for me.

I would love to know your thoughts on one of the bigger boox devices for note taking. I have a boox note air 3c. I was a physical bullet journal user and switched to completely digital with my note air 3c. It writes just like I'm using a fountain pen and paper. I get longer journaling sessions and I mostly use the built in note taking software. I also use it as a ereader and the size has been great for annotations. Apps I have are. Storygraph Libby Firefox VLC media player And that's pretty much it. I use Firefox for articles and getting photos for my journaling and VLC for the audiobooks I have actual files for instead of streaming most of my books. I also have a lot of epubs so I just use the built in software which also has text to speech which I find handy. My journaling and reading increased a lot this last year and I reach for my journal more often now.
