I have 2 and they NEVER bark and I would give them both a 1 out of 10 for being a guard dog. They don't bark at anyone and just love it when people visit. These are all just generalisations although I haven't met a dumb BC there are definitely levels of energy. I picked both of mine because they were the placid pups in their respective litters. They still love to play and run but are mostly quiet and nice to be around.

WWWHAATT my BC is the best guard dog possible. He has the perfect temper ment for guarding and barks at everyone who passes by but never runs out to attack them(unless the enter the gate). Maybe we just raised ours different

I love my border collie. He's great! Can walk him off leash he listens and at home is a couch potato. He loves flyball!

They only shed twice a year. Once from Jan - June and again from July-Dec. lol yes. B.C. do shed like 99% of other dogs. They shed heavier in late winter early spring when they're losing their winter coat but expect a few hairs on everything year round.

The exercise number being a 2 is what I called them on as well! Maybe they meant 12 on a scale from 1-10 lol I could walk my adored B.C. Dixie 12 hrs a day & play with her off leash for 11 of those hours and 30 min later she'd be giving me those "go for a walk?" Eyes.

I'd probably get one of the shorter haired B.C. or dog of any breed for that matter for living anywhere w an extremly hot climate. B.C.'s love cooler Temps. Not like Antarctica but cooler temps.
