I love how Mal drugged someone’s man and pretty much coerced him into loving her, pretty much got everyone to smear her and then acted like the victim because she wasn’t over it even though it really hasn’t been that long and she’s constantly seeing it unfold. How is she *not* treated as an actual villain in this series is beyond me because she doesn’t have a heroic bone in her body

No for real. And every action of hers is self-serving. Not really a greater good type, because if it doesn't immediately positively affect her, she won't do it. Also I kind of find Audrey and Uma very sympathetic. Audrey because her life was ripped away from her. She was supposed to be queen and have the love of her life but Mal came along and drugged him and he publicly dumped her for Mal and didn't even have the decency to have a heart-to-heart or give her real closure. I'd be pissed too. And Uma because she's really fighting for the injustice that villain kids face for being put on the island for something they didn't do. She never fights for just herself but for everyone.

Uma tricked Ben to give hope and a better life to Villain Kids, she just wanted to give them a good education and freedom so they don't have to live in their parents mistakes; Mal tricked Ben because she wanted the wand to take over the kindom whit her mother. And then she "casually" fell in love whit him, but unlike Uma her intensions were bad yet she has no real repercausion for her bad actions while Uma was treated badly and as the bad guy for wanting to help children.

imma be honest i think the only way that plotline couldve worked if it was revealed the spell never actually worked on him and he was willingly going along with it, maybe at first out of curiosity (like hey what's the vk gonna try to do here) and then out of genuine connection or whatever the fuck. they'd probably have to explain away audrey and ben breaking up or never include her to begin with, but it could probably work to better explain mal's character, yea at first she's self-centered and just doing this for herself but then she starts to genuinely feel bad and guitly about it thinking that he's only doing these things for her cuz he's under the spell's control and then she goes out of her way to try and break the spell for his own sake but turns out it never worked to begin with. and then like show that even though it never worked just the fact she tried to do it still gives her extreme guilt. thing is i honestly think you can make this change without altering the movie too much, just make it so that audrey and ben weren't ever together and it was just that she had a crush on him, everyone shipped them, and he just straight up wasnt aware at all or was stalling. i guess it does ruin one of the best songs but honestly you can probably still fit it in somewhere and it removes the biggest moral dilemma of the first movie

At the end you questioned why Audrey cared Ben was still dating anyone, especially Mal, it's fairly explained in the movie but more understandable when you dig into the character's story. She basically only cared cause since she was little, she and Ben were put together and Audrey's family expected her to continue the line of queens in the family, like they put full pressure on Audrey to live up to that and didn't value her for any other real reason. So losing Ben, and even seeing Ben make Mal his queen, does not only hurt Audrey since she was with Ben for most of her life, but puts her under ridicule from her entire family. So, Ben is more of a goal to achieve the expectations of her family than an actual love interests for Audrey.

for the people wondering, the fourth movie is set in the same world but not with the same main characters. the only one coming back i know of is uma. from what we know, the plot is gonna be time travel related, where the daughter of cinderella and her friends go back to when their parents were teenagers for some reason. i know hook will be there, but it's not harry, it's his dad, so immediately i don't care. and also this is a detail that only matters to a small portion of people, but for cinderella and prince charming,they cast the actors from the 1997 roger and hammerstein's cinderella, which is iconic, and i couldn't be happier. and they even go with that movie's logic of colourblind casting, because canonically they are chad's parents. although they do open the can of worms of how can such sweet people have raised chad lmao

20:25 I think the point of showing Celia and her dad is the show-don't-tell rule with proving that there are loving parent-child relationships, even on the isle. It puts a name and a face to the conflict of closing the barrier, making it more personal to the audience, and to Mal, were she not so blinded by fear.

I took the border comparison to be less about the Mexican border and more about the continued segregation of "urban" and more "upstate" communities. 'Cause remember in D2, Ben said "They're my people too," yet they get no funding, the community thieves from each other to survive, etc. In that regard, I agree with the message it was going for, though obviously, this isn't a one-to-one situation, and as you said, it should've been done over the years.

I remember a viewing of the first movie that showed fun facts about the characters during commercials. Here are a few I can remember: Ben has loved Mal for years from afar, he could see her on the island and was smitten. Carlos is a tech genius. It’s how he was able to turn off the alarm in the first movie. They also talked about the usage of CGI and that’s where I learned the term and what it is

@@lemonicowo they’re pretty much entirely scripted! I watch the movie and write it as a I go. I ad lib a good bit. But i found myself cutting those jokes out cause they were never as funny. So I mostly just stick the the script at this point! I don’t upload the script to KZbin though because I don’t say everything word for word so automated ones work better as long as I make sure to annunciate!

Was waiting for this. I totally agree that this one is the weakest of the trilogy. The thing that sticks out to me the most is Audrey's conflict. When discussing the movie with my sister she helped me realize just how messed up the situation with the love potion was from Audrey's perspective. I wish we could have gotten more insight into her and Ben's relationship because with the way that Ben just so readily jumped at the first chance to get away from her (and that comment that Belle made about how she never liked Audrey) really makes me question why they were ever together in the first place? Would they have married had Mal never shown up in Auradon? Personally, I think they should have planned it better and really built up Audrey's frustration/hurt because it was valid. Also, I wish there were some rules to the magic system that we could follow because yeah... how would Audrey know anything about magic when Auradon was a no magic zone? It would have been cool to see Maleficent return, she clearly had a strong connection to her staff and could have been manipulating Audrey through it. That's all I'll say for now but the more I think about it I think Descendants would have worked better as a series considering all the underused characters and potentially interesting plotlines. Also, justice for Jay and Carlos. Why have them in the movies and just not do anything with them? I loved what they did with Evie, why not have the boys do something relevant too?

Last I heard, Descendants 4 was gonna have a whole new cast. One made of mostly Alice in Wonderland characters. And the main macguffin was gonna be time travel. Meaning that this might very well be the "The Cursed Child" of the Descendants franchise. And I don't know how to feel about that.

I think it was more likely the pressure put on Audrey by Queen Leah that put her over the edge. Actually, she'd been trying to live up to "grammy's" expectations all her life, probably because grammy was trying to raise the perfect daughter to become the perfect queen (since she missed out on raising her own child). The fact that the one standing in the way of grammy's little princess becoming queen was the daughter of the villain who took Aurora away from her just made Leah that much more bitter, and she took it out on Audrey, who, in turn, latched onto the whole "Mal is the enemy" thing, and lashed out at not only Mal, but the kingdom she saw as having turned their backs on her. It was really all about pressure passed down from grammy to Audrey, actually, and when we hear everyone apologizing, Leah never apologizes to Audrey for making her believe she had to earn her love and respect by becoming queen at any cost. I think Audrey's grandma could learn a lesson in loving and supporting her progeny by watching how Celia and Dr. Facilier interact. He gives advice that he knows is taken seriously, but it's clear from the get-go that she knows he loves her, even if she messes something up.

Fun fact: One of the biggest (actually the only) reasons I even considered giving this movie a watch when it first aired was because Hades was going to make his debut. Being my favorite Disney Villain, if not my favorite movie villain as a whole, I was quite excited. But then I forgot about it and my forgetfulness vindicated me in the end because he only shows up for like, ten minutes anyways.

Discount Zac Efron, as BillyBinges would say, has a draw for villain girls (probably) because of the allure of power. I mean, in each film, he's either the king, or being corronated as king by the climax of the film. I know I'm being cynical, but really... That's Audrey's motive. And Uma liked that she could stick it to Mal as a bonus. As for Mal, if you recall, she was just after the wand innitially. Fun fact: Dove Cameron was actually dating Harry Hook's actor irl during the filming of D2. Headcannon says Harry and Mal were exes.

Okay, so, Descendants 4 is an entirely new story. This storyline ends with a Disney+ "Royal Wedding" animation. It looks terrible. You can tell it was rushed to complete the story. Carlos, I think, is dead in the canon now, too, because of this animation. They talk about how they miss him and how it won't ever be the same. The story ends with Mal saying that her story is over, but somewhere, another one is beginning. It ends with a camera shot "down the rabbit's hole" because D4 is entirely new cast with a new story. A description was released about a royal baby being born, and the new group has to save the royal family. It's taking place in Wonderland, I think? Brandy is coming back to play Cinderella, which makes a lot of people question the existence of Chad. It's the same prince charming and Cinderella as the Brandy version. A lot of people just say he's adopted 😂

I’m really not excited for the next movie, however, I would absolutely be down for more books, for anyone who hasn’t read them, they’re written by Melissa De La Cruz and they’re meant to fill in the gaps between the movies and they’re a lot darker and grittier than the movies and, in my opinion, much better than the movies Edit: it’s two years, the first movies they’re sixteen and in the book set right before this movie, Mal states they’ve finally reached senior year, so it’s been two years Edit: 17:03 nah, look at how he interacts with Uma, he’d treat you so right

Hades in greek mythology is not evil like in the Disney movie, he’s just as neutral as the other gods. So funnily enough this Hades is more accurate to the mythological Hades than the Disney Hades he’s based on.

I am so disappointed with the ending of this movie. It's such a typical Disney 'we need to wrap everything up in a neat bow' ending that makes no sense for the world they've established. Like, in the first two movie, Carlos was so afraid of his mother and in this one... he wants to go back to visit her??? In the second he and Evie clearly said they never wanted to go back and now all of a sudden they miss their parents?? Plus, at the end they run towards the isle to go to their parents but Mal, girl? Who are you running to? Your dad left and your mom's a lizard you are supposedly keeping. Even though we haven't seen her since you left for the isle, so did she just leave her there??? This world has so much potential, which is squashed since it's Disney and can't delve too deep into actual issues. So the Villains can just be let go. Audrey can just forgive Mal and Mal doesn't have to face any consequences for drugging Ben. It's frustrating... Plus, the books have great worldbuilding and so many more interesting and nuanced characters but they don't fit in with the movies at all. Neither does the animated series to be honest. They made an extended universe that just does not fit together and it makes me so angry. The books I kind of understand, they were written by a third party but the series??? Why does it not fit in with your main timeline? Why make it then??? I love this franchise, I do, but it was just handled so poorly. D4 is going to be a spin-off, but my hopes are pretty low...

VK Day is the first of its kind. By my best guess there’s probably like 250 kids on this island, taking into account the many, many lackeys, henchmen, villains, and possibly anti-heroes on the Isle. If they took 4 kids over every month, it would take at least 5 years & like 3 months for them to get all the kids over to Auradon. By that time, some of the kids will have either aged out of the age limit or maybe have kids of their own (the Isle’s been open for like 22 years at this point), and it’s NEVER said that there aren’t new VKs being born we saw a toddler in the first movie. If they’re taking four kids over A YEAR? It’s never going to get done.

so about the security guard: I take for granted that in the original movie there's only that elder to protect the most powerful jeweleries and stuff in the world because theorically there's not bad people living in Auradon, they wouldn't do anything wrong and etc. However, we've seen along on the first and second movie that doesn't matter if you live in Auradon, you can still be a shitty person, and also there are villains attacking day to day, so doesn't make any fucking sense that the security is STILL the same after they got in trouble
