C Trp 11th ACR and 11th ACR Regimental HQ Border Ops 78-80. Thanks for the memories....my time with the Blackhorse had a positive impact on my career and life. Even the hardships are now thought of with a smile....I can remember many holidays spent in the rain, snow and cold patrolling the border.

Wow, that was a fun walk down memory lane - if not a bit dated... I was with L-Troop, 3d Squadron, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, based in Amberg, West Germany from Dec. 1979-'80. After a year of patrolling the Czech border with six-week rotations at Camp May, I auditioned for Colonel Robert E. Wagner's (unauthorized) military band - The Dragoon Band, and moved to headquarters in Nurnberg for my second year, '80-'81. We travelled throughout Bavaria and the Black Forest area of West Germany, creating goodwill between our strong U.S. military presence and the German people. What amazing memories of marching in Faschings Festival parades, playing concerts at beer fests, and hanging out of a huey playing the 'Cavalry Charge' with my trumpet over the mock battles at Graffenwoehr. I will aways remember my 2d Cav days, and the beautiful people of Bavaria.

I did a tour in Wildflecken from 1956 through 1958. At that time it was home for the 373rd. .Armored.. When out in the field we still had to be careful not to cross the Border. The winters were bitter cold with 2 ft the normal. Best time I ever had was when I went to Austria for radio repair school. Thank God it was peaceful years.

I was in A Troop, 1/11 ACR, Fulda, 76-79. We had M-551s until they were replaced with the M-60s. I liked the Sheridans. They were fast. But the M-60s were roomy and the heaters worked. And I got tired of eating frozen C-rations. I never saw a M-114 in action. They were gone when I got there.
