I tried my best not to fight back and survive, but eventually I think he nicked my spiderant, and she did not take kindly to being shot and spit acid at him in retaliation. I didn't realize he needed to actually kill me. I'd have had to re-spec, like you seemed to need to do. I would have liked not killing him, but I also don't like dying- I want my damn bank upgrades, which are only getting more expensive. Not to mention he doesn't really give you that much eridium- personally, I think it's common enough in this game, especially after you get the smasher. It's not enough incentive on its own to want to swallow the respawn fee with all these new bank upgrades to get. For me, it would be more about the narrative desire to avoid any actually avoidable kills or violent acts, like giving the black market guy the money in Ace Baron's Healers and Dealers mission instead of threatening him. I feel like there might have been others, just can't remember them.

There’s a trick for this mission: stay close to the door, let him shoot you until you’re fighting for your life, then get second wind from one of the enemies outside. This worked for me, I didn’t kill him and I didn’t die and I still got the reward.

When I did this mission I was only like level 37, and when I opened the chest it was a level 50 pistol, so I guess you always get a level 50 pistol from the chest.

Oh my god, I remember when I've had my Iron Bear on because I was too afraid of dying so I had to get to my mech so I could survive longer. When I exited it, I forgot that I have Auto Bear so basically as soon as I left my mech, Iron Bear started insta-locking on Tern and killed him in one shot.

So here's the thing. My Skag didn't kill him, but I had lick the wounds on at the time. So what happened was I got revived and he just stood there like the video. Since my Skag kept reviving me regardless, I did my best to distance myself from him getting to have him fight off other enemies and eventually I respawned and the mission continued I think. I finished it a while back, but I remember the game softlocking.

I had to kill him the first go because my shield was one that always emitted a radioactive aura around me and he got rad damaged to death. Funnily enough, my second go my pet brought me back like yours did, and I didn't want to kill him (again) so i let the wildlife outside his place finish me, and it still counted!

For the pacifist option you need to deactivate many stuff that can interfere with the quest, but nothing warns you of that so just like you I got stuck, I was wearing a mod that makes you shoot lightning bolts when you slide lol and forgot about it but hit him while trying to evade his shots as a reflex motion... I really didn't want to kill the guy ! I'm here to see if there really is a pacifist option and I'm glad there is !

My shield does a cryo blast fo 150% damage when depleted and i didnt know he was going to shoot me, tern shot at me and so i stood really close to him and when he shot at me i unintentionally killed him with my shield.

I did this quest yesterday. I didn't know you had to let him down you, so I dodged around his office desk and chair. The whole time he was saying "Do resort to violence! This is for your own good" and his splash damage eventually took himself out. (He pressed up against the table when targetting me) This still gets you the peaceful option since you didn't damage him.

What was hilarious about this quest was I using a shield that does damage whenever you get hit. Needless to say I just stood there to let Tern nuke me and my shield nuked him. Lesson learned, don't use a shield that does reaction damage when doing this quest. At least it was funny. 🤣🤣

TFW you do this quest and you get shot but then your shield activates grenades and those hurt the bot and now you have involuntary killed the bot by doing absolutely nothing and can't get the weapon.
