For anyone that isn't familiar with the Borderlands games, the games essentially take place in a world where there is no government, just large gun manufacturing companies, cults and bandit outposts that rule certain planets or sections of planets. Everything revolves around guns, everything revolves around fighting for survival and the reason the planet Pandora is so special is because it houses a vault, a collection of ancient alien relics that can either be incredibly powerful creatures, artifacts or you guessed it guns. The tone of the game is very tongue and cheek, sort of toilet humour a little bit of "le random", but it's all punctuated by like, a pretty gratuitous amount of violence and murder. And it seems like that tone and potential for like, really cool fights with unique weapons and powers was completely lost on the film makers. Taking a franchise known for violent and gorey murder and toilet humour and reducing it to the most marketable and safe version of it. The funniest part though is that it seems like every character in the game was aged up significantly in the movie, lilith is supposed to be in her early twenties and is played by 55 year old Kate Blanchet.

At least Madame Web actually took place in the early 2000s so that lends to the vibe

Borderlands exists now, after being in a vault for 2 years, plus the reshoots, with people getting their names taken off the film due to its known awfulness. Meanwhile, WB/Discovery/whatever-the-hell corporate monster they are this week, kills a nearly completed Batgirl movie a year ago for the tax credit. I hate Hollywood sometimes....

4:20 From what you describe, it sounds like the kind of craziness that the Borderlands franchise wants to sell. I've only played the 2nd game, but I know exactly what you mean and why it doesn't work as a movie.

Dan, you were so funny doing the impression 🤣 You should start a series of movies reviews for worst movies, and instead of your normal tone, you should do the coked-up impression... it would be hilarious.

I often find it weird when a critic or really anyone seems personally offended by a movie that was just trying to entertain. Like seriously people just relax it's a movie not that big of a deal.

Looks like Hollywood have giving too much pass for Avi Arad to keep producing an (objectively) bad movie, there are still many movies based on video game/ anime-manga after this that in production with him as the producer😢

Cate Blanchet in this sounds like Helen Mirren in FF but without the fun 😂

LEGEND OF ZELDA will only stand a chance if Wes Ball works as a producer It's the only way he can save it from AVI ARAD That's why SPIDER-VERSE worked

Avi Arad is 75. Nature may save the anime and game film industry.

If you’re wondering why the movie has such a stacked cast It’s because they were attracted to the project by the supposedly fantastic Craig Mazin script that Eli Roth then completely re-wrote and seemingly made it far worse

Dan you kinda went on a tangent about the actors and director, do you mind making a follow up video discussing whether you actually liked it or not

From the trailers this looked like any of the MCU movies which is why I have seen so few MCU projects. From my perspective, this looks like a cross between Tank Girl and Ocean Eleven. The Borderlands series sold 77 million copies and at $60 a pop (about the cost of a big budget video game), that would be $4.62 billion or $1.54 billion per game. That's why this movie was made. However, at $15 a movie ticket, that comes out to $385 million which is slightly above its break even point.

Borderlands, Madame Webb, Trap and Rebel Moon director's cuts are not only the worst films of 2024 but some of the worst movies ever made. What a year to be alive.
@Erasureeraser5 ай бұрын
Trap is dumb but it's at least entertaining and watchable enough only for the first and second acts. The other three movies are just stupid and ridiculous from start to finish basically with no redeeming quality whatsoever

Just like Dan I sometimes what wonder what Roger and Gene Siskel would think of some current movies. I think somewhere Roger is proud of Dan’s review.
