Border View Farms

Күн бұрын

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I am fortunate to be able to farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. Occasionally I'll get my dad in a video as well. While I am the 4th generation in my family to farm some of what we are still farming today, I really credit my dad with making our farm what it is. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
Please enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Hi Nathan, loved your Nitrogen presentation! It is obvious that you have a strong agronomic background. Just a quick note, the nitrite form of nitrogen (NO2) is not absorbed by corn plants. I also wondered if you switch from 1 pound to 1.2 pounds of nitrogen per bushel of corn, when you are following wheat and not soybeans from the previous year (PUR74).

Yea if you wanted to use urea to put on before you seed would have to be done by yourself with a good pull type large spreader like what parsons use. So it can be done when you want. We put our anhydrous down at the same pass as seedling.

Plum your planter with the Surepoint ag metering tube instead of using an orifice. Have it on our planter and sidedress bar and it never stops 39:02 up

Why don't you use the air seeder in the spring to plant beans?

The 1790 is bigger, faster, and does a much better job singulating and placing the beans than the air seeder.

Hello Nathan! I Have a question for you that I have wanted to ask you many times and that is what your thoughts are about fallapplying ammonia? Is that something that you do at all in your part of usa? I worked as a trainee in Iowa and Minnesota when I was 20 years old 1995-1996 and I ran in to this practice of late applications when the ground was cold enough to do it. Can you also talk a little bit about the climate and growingconditions where you farm? It is interesting to hear such things too, I remember how bitterly cold it could be in the winter in Iowa and Minnesota but it seems to me that it is not quite that cold in your area. Greetings from sweden.
