Why couldn’t one of his male or female fam members not inherit this trunk? I didn’t realize luxury trunks were gender specific? I’m confused. And what’s wrong with him making himself a trunk. Weird comment.

Amazing work! While watching the first video I wondered what you would do about the nails penetrating. Did you just cut them off or did you peen them as well? Peening them all seems a little ... much, but will they hold fine without?
@boreoff11 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks very much, and great question - I had originally planned on riveting them all as I wanted to stay true to the vintage methods (I don't think the modern ones are) but that was not possible partly because of access/space - in the end I riveted the handle - it needs this strength, and riveted some of the accessible Belt nails but just cut the others as seemed overkill and unnecessary. I clinched the closures as that was also important and some selective key base frame ones too - I wanted to film more of the riveting but I just couldn't get the lights, the camera and the hammer in there while balancing the trunk on those aluminium plates that acted as a counterforce!! I managed to film the lid stay - exact same method as that. Choosing to make a half size version of the LV trunk ended up causing me all sorts of difficulty - the larger trunk would have been easier in the long run! I was thinking about doing a voice over on a shorter version of the video as I learned quite a lot on this project and wondered if that might be of interest?

Thank you, very kind. With the filming and trying to work out the design using photos etc it all seemed to take a long time but I have no idea actually as it is just for fun and I grab short moments in the workshop in between life, 2 kids, 2 dogs and work...! But once the design was bedded down, it is not that time consuming and a project anyone could take on with some woodworking experience. The leather handle is probably the most difficult element as saddle stitching in thick leather is challenging...! all the best

2:31 THIS! Repairing those guides and riveting is a nightmare to position the block when the trunk is 4ft long 😅 finding this information is hard and using almost exclusively the wrong tools!
@boreoff10 ай бұрын
Yes I agree - I asked my son to help me out as everything was moving all over the place! You really need what the french call a 'bouterolle' - it's a heavy weight tool that can butts up against the head of the nail- that you can't seem to buy anywhere these days - there are lightweight ones on Amazon but they are not good enough and not necessarily the correct size. Also the nails have solid brass heads but actually have a steel shank which is very strong but much harder to rivet. I am used to riveting copper not steel but I got there in the end by placing those alu blocks under the head..what do you do? Just wondering? cheers
