I just have to ask, how well or bad would just using the vacuum when soldering work? Will it kill the vacuum? I guess the filtering is actually really sort of good, especilly with a full bag :)

@ I don't think something that can suck up the dust from your floor is going to complain about the smoke from your soldering iron - its just burnt flux. Contrary to what people believe there isn't any measurable metallic content unless you have your soldering iron set to several thousand degrees. I would think like Howard that the problem would be the noise and power use.

I think the most important point about the fume extractor is how efficient it is. It is cute but if it does not filter smoke adequately, I would say it is just a decoration.
@darkracer1252 Жыл бұрын
it's more of a fume spreader because he uses the wrong filter material. filter is for water for a whole other application. i mean you can freaking see through it and he thought it would filter nicely... (plus an extractor would have a hose and the fumes after filtering would be ejected to outside)
@IsoMacintosh Жыл бұрын
@@darkracer1252 Proper extractor is not a solution many hobbyists can do, this seems quite useful to move the fumes away to avoid them being breathed in.

That filter is not doing much beyond making you feel like you’re protecting yourself. It’s just helping diffuse the smoke so it appears like it was adsorbed when it wasn’t.

Thanks, I've got that huge one as well, and never use it, so this is perfect. With regards to efficacy, it's all about concentrations. If you want to completely eliminate paint, design the eyes so the blue, white and black sections are at least 3 layers apart from each other, and use layer-based color changes. the hose comeing from that vacuum kirby gives me an idea: the filter of the extractor does not need to be directly in front! if you place a hose directly over your soldering place the other end of the hose could be having a large filter, and exhaust to outside of the room. you could even use a noisy fan if it is far enough away. the only thing you would need is an arm that holds the end of the hose in the right place and orientation.

Idea behind a "front filter" is that a Fan generally has a easier job pulling air through a obstacle, than pushing through one. In practice this difference is pretty small (unless the fan has some shoddy construction to keep somewhat of a seal on either side), but for fume extractors every tiny bit is squeezed out of it.

2:33 character modellers don't use parametric modelling software like Fusion360, Solidworks etc. There are specific 3D Modellers out there for 3dmodellers, that are much more fluid to work with and make organic shapes etc. like Blender, Maya, 3dsmax, etc. thins like just pulling parts of the model around, enlarging them. Think like the warp tool in photoshop. They don't have to sketch something, then extrude or do some other parametric style extrusion to it. Obviously that doesn't work for engineering design, but it's not as hard as what you did.

Would suggest going up one difficulty level and going ABS on this one as you can smooth the prints via vapor chamber (don't expose the treads). And then swap the pain to ABS dissolved in acetone. I'll looks less cheesy than the paint. This also could be done to smooth the parts verse vapor chamber.
