I don't understand how certain right-wing newspapers call the EU undemocratic or corrupt, yet at closer inspection there is no evidence for that. But here in the UK we have this massive undemocratic and corrupt monstrosity called The House of Lords. Surely in a democracy the Upper House should be elected. While we're getting rid of peerages etc can we scrap the £110k per annum for life for ex prime ministers and pay offs to ministers who only held office for a matter of weeks, oh and the subsidised restaurants. We could use the subsidy for school meals.

The House of Lords will exist for as long as the monarchy exists. I have no hatred in me for Charles, but I do think it’s time we moved into the 21st century and peaceably dissolved the monarchy, as, with it would go not only the House of Lords, but also, once there was no longer a Defender of the Faith, we could also finally sever the link between the country and the undemocratic and unnecessary state religious body, the Church of England.
