So far I’ve only listened to the first five minutes of your story and it’s so much like my childhood I’m in shock!! I didn’t realize others were also raised the way I was!! I lived amongst the craziness until my dad went to prison when I was 12 then when I turned 17, like a homing missile for some crazy ass, unknown reason I rushed back to Oregon to see him even though he molested me and that’s why he was in prison... I was once again instantly thrust into the crazy folds of our huge family. They make crazy look and feel very normal though. At least when you’ve grown up in it and are completely immersed in it.

This is actually what my biggest hold up is. I won't date women with kids because I had an abusive step father. Found out his step father was abusive, etc. Seemed like a cycle, so in order for me not to become "that guy" I've shut myself out. I know I can break the cycle, but not now, I still have anger problems and that was always the abusive problem. So until I have that figured out, I remain single and lonely 😆

Beautiful story of redemption. There’s a tribe of us out here breaking generational curses left and right. Ending the bad karma and changing the way we conduct our lives today verses the examples we had as children. You are a survivor, you are brilliant, you are awesome! Thank you for sharing your beautiful and touching story. I know you will inspire many! You may be just the person I’ve been looking for to get the message across in regards to long term affects of childhood trauma and how to cope with it and make the choices to live far beyond what you as a childhood trauma survivor would have ever expected when you were younger. The question for me is what is the best way to reach our tribe? How can we create more healing, empathy, compassion, dialogue, and end the silent suffering and insanity childhood trauma creates? So much more on the topic but, beautiful interview! So proud of you and this is real talk amazing!!🎉❤😊

It is so true. It’s easy for us to understand and heal together and then together change and reach masses of people. I simple refuse to believe there isn’t anything we can do we when all come together. I’ve done some speaking for the ICADV and went and spoke to DV offenders. I also was the parent to my mother so, I have been trying in my soul to heal myself but, I have found out the only way to truly do that is to help others and give back. It has been such a healing experience! I’m not sure who Caroline is but, I will check her out. That sounds amazing. Thank you for the suggestion:) it’s wonderful connecting and hope you are doing well and living your best life:) 😊❤

"Testimony" gave me a flashback to how I thought of it in my childhood-very- fundamental religious sense. And I realized that's what this site has created. A sacred/safe place for people to present themselves and tell their stories. For those of us who listen, an opportunity to see everything and everyone from a different perspective. To bless this "testifier" with love and gratitude for sharing themselves. To share our own stories and perspectives. To bless the orchestrator with the mad genius "vision" to open the revolving doors.

I lost both my parents to drugs as a young teen but by the grace of God, have found myself on a path very opposite to that of my biological parents. I don’t know how & I often ask why me, out of the thousands of people who share very similar upbringing’s, but there is no limit to the gratitude I feel for my story thus far. Even though I struggle with very similar mental health issues, self sabotaging tendencies, etc. I am beyond thankful that those are the extent of my current struggles. Thank you Brian for sharing your story. I know there’s more people out there like us and I hope to be able to share that one day. Chris you are amazing!I’m sure your parents loved you(kidnaping you out of the hospital and your dad running with a gun after the person who tried to hurt you says a lot. Unfortunately drugs took the best out of them and could not focus on you and your brother, what a shame!)thank you for sharing, blessings to you and your family!I’m sure your story will help others!

I had the same response to those parts of the story, even as I was thinking love is a damn hard thing to define. His response that he did not feel "supported" said it all. We can universally have a million changing definitions of love, but we personally know what not feeling supported means.

WOW!!! What an amazing story! Chris, you are a ray of hope for many people who are going through difficult things in life. I am a public high school teacher and have several students who live lives that I cannot imagine. The message of hope that you portray is what these students need to hear. Thank you!

Kudos to Chris. He overcame so much to get where he is today. He is a good person and I’m sure is a good dad. Thank God he had guardians who adopted him and that made all the difference. He struggles but has overcome his past and I have much respect for him. You deserve the best, Chris and I wish you all the best. ❤️🇨🇦

Great interview! I'm surprised and thrilled at the same time! To be born literally to addiction and not be an addict, that's amazing!

Thank you so much Chris for sharing your story. I am so glad you now have long term stability, a loving family. Thank you to your adopters. I would have liked to hear more about the chapter in your life regarding - the contrast of stability and care from adults after not having that-you dragged yourselves up, instead of being raised. The fact that education was really important (after food), and that you now have a degree and soon a masters is just wonderful. Study and perspective through reading and therapy and living the reciprocated family love in your life now. You must have met your partner when you were young (you look young now) to have already been together for 15 years. I am glad. It is much harder to meet the one with children and ensuring their safety and well being (too risky for the children).
