Just a suggestion fire 2-3 caps before loading that will clear any fine objects or excess oil from the breach and give more reliable ignition. Congrats on a good hunt.

Less sporting individuals clear the nipple with a cap fire before loading. Only a very considerate sportsman off offers 2 warnings. Way to keep your cool and follow through. Thanks for sharing your excitement.

"Well rounded outdoorsman" is Trent for, keeps me in the woods longer...lol 😂😅 Awesome bull, great shot! You're correct for continuing to aim on target after a dry fire. Sometimes the powder is slower to ignite for whatever reason. You may try a hotter primer, or a pellet powder. Love what ya'll are doing ❤

You just took me down memory lane bud, I’m 38 an this year I finally was able to fill my first whitetail deer muzzle tag. But what I’m getting at was after I filled this tag I went out to try an fill another one, a beautiful snowy morning here in buffalo NY an I went out hoping to fill another tag on the last day of the season an man was it cold out. 8am an I had a doe come in at 20 yrds, she was behind a tree an I waited and waited for my shot an finally she stepped out an I pulled the trigger to a misfire, my cap got went from some falling snow an I never noticed it. I wasn’t able to get another shot at her but I was just so blessed to be able to get my first one this year an I’ve been hunting since I was 12. Great video this is what muzzleloaders are all about ❤

A mis fire is the most excruciating time with a muzzleloader. After the sound of the first misfire I was hollering , get a twig and ram that hole in the breech plug. Great job guys.

Awesome video and way to keep the composure after two misfires and then a hang fire. My father and I got into shooting muzzleloaders a few years back and use the powder instead of the pellets also. We have hunted in pouring snow and rain before and haven’t had a misfire yet. One thing we obviously do is try to let moisture get down the barrel. Also not sure if it’s legal in Oregon being state laws differ but we shoot a magnum 209 primer. Federal 209A or CCI 209M. We got away from shooting any 209 muzzleloader primer or just the regular 209 primers. After a lot of looking into it those 2 magnum primers burn hotter than the regular ones giving better chance of burning the powder. Also for the breech plug CVA makes two different breech plugs. One for pellets and one for loose powder which has a bigger hole in it allowing the powder to sit closer to the primer. They also make a specific sized drill bit to run thru the flash channel on the breech plug bc even after soaking and cleaning with the fuzzy pipe cleaner we were amazed how much harden powder we still were able to remove outta the flash channel with the drill bit. Just a few things for thought that hopefully may help y’all or someone else who might read it bc the ole smoke poles definitely present a different set of challenges than a rifle. Thanks for bringing a south Louisiana boy into the elk woods this week. And as always good luck and god bless
