If you find that the coin model looks like melted plastic after importing into Godot, even though it looks right in Blender, you should probably make sure to apply the Smooth by Angle modifier and then re-export the gltf file. Newer versions of Blender add a modifier when right-clicking and choosing Shade Auto Smooth. Older versions didn't do that.

For anyone finding that holding Shift does not work when trying to uniformly scale the coin in Godot, you can press "T" to switch to local co-ordinates and it will then work. It took me a few minutes to figure out why it wasn't working so in case anyone else comes across this issue you'll know what to do. I can't wait for the next installment!

From zero knowledge in Godot, from your tutorials alone I was able to add things to the tutorial project already, like smoothing the camera rotation to a constant speed and lerping the character rotation to make it look smooth as well. You do such a great job explaining, everything starts to fall into place for me!

When it comes to learning game development we need more material like this, where you see the workflow on both the game engine side and the 3D modelling side. That's the scariest territory at least for me because so many things can go wrong somewhere along the path when creating the asset and exporting it in the 3D software and then importing it and using it in the game engine. Following along step by step like this makes it a lot less intimidating. :D

12:05 something to help make centering the $ easier is if you scroll through the object data (the little green a tab he mentioned) there is a paragraph section where you can set the horizontal and vertical alignment to be center and middle instead of left and top! so now the anchor point of the text is directly in the middle of the $! EDIT: after downloading a custom font my $ was no longer center, So be aware that some fonts can still be off center! but of course, it does not matter if its perfectly aligned or not perfection isn't always the best thing to strive for, especially when you are learning!

It made coin mesh into .res because it was the first option. You can force it to be .tres by typing the extension manually before reimporting. However, In this case I think it is fine that the file is .res since it’s a binary format and it is faster for a computer to read a binary file instead of text.

I had a problem that the coin looked like a tank rolled over it after importing it to Godot via the gltf export. After an hour of redoing the steps in the tutorial i figured out that you can change some settings in the gltf dialog. I had to check the mesh/apply modifiers. @WeirdBrainGoo2 ай бұрын
@@killerzillavolt2655 The problem is that in newer versions of Blender, when right-clicking and selecting Shade Auto Smooth, it actually adds a "Smooth by Angle" modifier to your object. Which you will have to apply along with the boolean modifier before exporting, or your coin will look pretty messed up when importing to Godot. So just apply the Smooth by Angle modifier and export again. :)

I imported it and the coin didn't turn out correctly so I had to use the flat one and not round as the round one broke so yeah I'm not sure what happened as I did the steps the exact same something broke. Like the coins texture looked like if you crumpled up a plastic bag but it the coin geometry and everything was fine so it looked weird and I fixed it my making it flat and not smooth and anything I import that is smooth just does not work unless I make it flat.
@WeirdBrainGoo2 ай бұрын
I had the same problem. It's because in newer versions of Blender, when you right-click and choose Shade Auto Smooth, it actually adds a modifier called Smooth by Angle. So before exporting you'll actually have to apply that modifier, along with the boolean modifier for it to look right in Godot. If you click the little monitor icon in the Smooth by Angle modifier to see what it looks like without it, you'll see it look just as weird inside Blender. :P
