As a father of a beautiful 3 year old daughter, I have watched Moana, many times... many many times. This song always struck me though, and although it is in a launguage totaly alien to me, I couldn't help but feel the sorrow. Having found this video (and others of it being sung live) I now understand the meaning and reason, I now share your sorrow. Each time I again, watch Moana with my daughter, I shall hold her a just a little closer. There are great oceans between us, but distance is meaningless if you hold love in your heart. Its Beautiful song and loving tribute.

Bula vinaka from Fiti (Fiji). My father once told me the story of the Tuvalu tragedy when i was 7. I remember him telling me with tears in his eyes how the young girls didn't make it that night and he told me how everybody in the Pacific pains when a country or a tragedy occurs because we're all interconnected as Pasifika. Now i am 19 and studying at University discovering this song brought back memories of the tragedy of my Pasifika (Pacific) neighbors of Tuvalu. I cried more like my father because he felt the pain as if those 19 young girls were his own. We are connected Moana-wide (Oceania-wide)..Vinaka

Wow, this was heartbreaking! I wasn't there, but the tone of this song seriously captures what happened as it happened. And when you watch the film, it's that same voice giving Moana a prophetic calling. Those nineteen young women will forever be immortalised by that film, as it's their song and the lady who sung it that began the whole mission.

I am so proud and greatful that someone finally translated this lovely melody. my heart is in my mouth as it has more meaning than before to me. how devastating to hear the real true meaning behind the song. May the Lord bless all of those families and friends of the ones lost during the fire. I love Te Vaka. what they did for Disney Moana Is truly something so special, I hope I am able to personally thank each and every one of them, to see all of Oceania and visit with all of the people. This is what makes me cry the most. And sorry to rant under a three years old comment. But the saddest line there is that they lost the future of a nation. And they really were. Future wife's, mothers, teachers, doctors... Who knows what they could have done for their community. We live in big cities now, most of us. Nineteen lives, it's a tragedy, but it doesn't affect our future whatsoever. We feel sorry for the families and then we move on. But they have lost so much more...

I try to always research things, so I researched the history of this beautiful song from Moana. The history is that its about 19 girls desth in a boarding school. What happend was a girl was studying at night and there was a candle at a mosquito net. The candle tipped over. The windows and the doors were boarded to seperate the boys from the girls, so they sadly couldn’t leave. It’s very tragic, so may they rest in oeace 👼🏻🕊

Critico Tingka Critico Tingka 👍🏽 I should have translated it. The first sentence is: I send my love to the kids who died in the fire. Ofa atu is a difficult sentence to translate because while it does pertain to sending out love, it goes beyond that. Than, the last sentence is: Love from Tonga.
