I am Samoan but raised on the Westside of Hawaii, in Waianae (Home of the Brave). The Hawaiian culture in Waianae is strong, and as both Samoans and Hawaiians are Polynesian, I developed a deep appreciation for both cultures. Throughout my life, many people have had a positive impact on me-my Pali/Adams family, the Amina family, and especially the late Aunty Ona (Ms. K), to name a few. I am a God-fearing man above all, and I take pride in being Samoan by blood and Hawaiian in spirit. Though this wasn't around during my childhood, it evokes a sense of nostalgia and brings tears to my eyes as I reflect on Hawaii and the struggles its people have endured. This post isn't about pointing fingers or dwelling on the past-what’s done is done. It’s a reminder to embrace your culture, love where you come from, and always seek ways to show respect and love to all. Above all, place your trust in God. This life is temporary, but your spirit is eternal!

I come from a people of lost heritage for I am African American. In most cases, it is impossible to know of our native ancestors and traditions, which is why I feel deeply for indigenous people, but especially those in the paradise of your native land, Hawaii. My son, who is now deceased, lived in Honolulu for two years. When he returned home, he spoke of the beauty there, an in Maui. The native people welcomed him as they opened their heart to Him. As a mother, I cannot put into words how much that meant to me. It is my dream to trod where he once was, and to meet the wonderful people of Hawaii. When I discovered this video, I broke into tears. How my heart weeps for your struggle not to loose your unique identity. Though I don’t know your language, but I feel from my core, you proudly sing of who you are as a people, and your beautiful land-and once again I cry like a baby. May you keep up the fight; please never give up, for the Creator made you to be just as you are-a beautiful people.

The pure emotion in the room. I may not be a native Hawaiian. I always try to learn the meaning of the song and try to translate the song. I know that it’s been a while since my visit to Hawaii. But it’s sad that you have to reclaim the land of your ancestors due to ignorance of others. I applaud and appreciate that you honor your ancestors, and honor every thing around you including life.

Hello~ i moved to korea 4 years ago. I don’t know why, but I was shuffling my music and came across this song that once again brought me to tears. I think the emotion is nostalgia. I only know a few singers here, but relistening after many years, I hear the hearts of everyone. My 2024 goal is to be able to sing the whole song and understand the words by heart. I am not kanaka, but hawaii is my home and this is a song I had the privilege long ago to learn at least the first verse and chorus and stand by kanaka with mele and kahea. I hope everyone is well and has the strength to keep moving forward. Mahalo nui loa~

As a haole who lives in Hilo, I cry whenever I hear this song or when I hear or sing Hawai’i Aloha. And I cry as I stand in the lagoon at Four Mile and gaze at the beauty of Mauna Kea. I cry for the beauty of the ‘āina and for the injustice. And I cry for the enduring strength and aloha of the Hawaiian people who have shown only kindness to this outsider. Mahalo nui.

For the 473 of you haters... Why come on here just to dislike it? You dont even know how much this song means to us Hawaiians. You just think that it's just a "normal song" when it isn't.

My braddahs and tittas, how very much I miss you. I very much miss my Hawai'i nei. I think about Hawai'i all the time. I miss braddah IZ. Long live his memory. I am sad that we had to leave (work related). But when we left, I took Hawai'i with me and left a part of me behind. Aloha au ia 'oe Hawai'i. As Na Leo Pilimehana sing, "I Miss You, My Hawaii." Liked and saved.

Chicken skin the whole way through!! Every one of these legendary voices are so unique and yet they blend together into a monumentally beautiful whole, just like our kanaka maoli people. Grateful to Hinaleimoana Wong for this song, and to every singer who took part in this unforgettable rendition of it. ❤

I am not Hawaiian, but since I visited Hawaii more then 30 years ago and go back as often as possible, I am adopted Hawaiian by myself, (I hope you aren't offended} I have not a homeland, since racism is so prevalent here. I love the Aloha attitude, the lei, the music. the lush paradise and of course the people. I just listed to your voices in your record, with pride and happiness that you are all one. Love you

I was moved to tears for several times by this song and always come back to listen to it. It's so beautiful. Even though I don't understand the words I feel your love and your plea. I have been deeply in love with Hawaii ever since I spent half a year there in the early 90ies. Keep going and never give up your tremendous feelings for your beatiful country.

I think it doesn’t matter if you are knowledgeable or lack knowledge of the culture and language, somehow this mele will touch and awaken something in your soul. Growing up it was so taboo to learn or even speak Hawaiian but I can feel the empowerment and importance of protecting our culture and land.

Just watching this piece of calming and peaceful singing has brought tears to my eyes. I'm not Hawaiian but a Cook Islander. I didn't understand any lyrics however the music and sounds tells it all. We are all in the same vaka, waka, va'a. We have stories to share through our music. Keep up the good mahi. E akamaro'iro'i kotou e te iti tangata o Vai'i.

This hits me even harder because I can speak and understand hawaiian, especially when they sang “Auhea wale oukou pu’alikoa o keawe?” Which translates to something like “Where are you soldiers of Keawe Along with those of Maui and O’ahu Unite, join together with those of Kaua’i Marching alongside the descendants of Ni’ihau”
