This was the first away game I went to with my father and cousin. I'll never forget the atmosphere before and during the match. It was a Wednesday night and I had school the next day so extra time was the last thing Dad wanted. Trevor's header crossed the line in slow motion from my vantage point and we celebrated like the lottery had been won. Football has changed so much since those heady days and most of it's not for the better. I struggle to recall any FA Cup match in the past decade which displayed the blood and thunder of that freezing cold February night in Ayresome. Money, corporate power and modern but soulless stadia have razed what was once a sport of the ordinary people. A sad sight to behold.

It was a brilliant night to be a Boro supporter in The Holgate End , crammed in like Sardines , a briliant game of football and one i will never forget UTFB :)

@@Elmwood-ze3cr There was just something magic in the air that night. Dad tried to get into the Cleveland Hotel but it was absolutely heaving and we had to be content to eat our fish and chips out of a brown paper bag on Linthorpe Road as swarms of home supporters engaged in good natured banter en route to the tie. The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric for the two and a half hours we stood there and I knew from early on in the game this was going to be one I'd fondly recall decades later. Anytime I pass by the gates of Ayresome at the Riverside I reminisce about that February night where despite the 2-2 draw, the real winners were the supporters privileged to witness an unforgettable old school FA Cup tie.

@@bulldog1603 I said it was the first away match I attended. Had seen Everton play many times before but was always at Goodison. Eleventh hour decision to attend Ayresome and one of the best decisions Dad ever made. The last gasp goal from Trevor the icing on the cake.

I was in the Stands behind the goal with Everton that night , Ayresome Park definitely a scary place in them days, Boro were trying to get at us from both sides of the away end and even from the pitch at the end

Trevor Steven was always superb in the air for a wide midfielder. Cracking header to save us that night.

Shit! can't believe this just popped up on my feed. I was at this game, I remember the crush outside the ground near the clive road entrance. Biggest crowd I ever went to at Ayresome Park. I was stood in the holgate pretty much the angle of the replay. Brilliant game just a shame we couldn't hold on. Great memories.
