Fascinating snapshot into a time thats not too long ago but already belongs to a different world.

It's as far away from now as 1926 was then, and people woulda said exactly the same in 1974 about 1926. In a time as seemingly distant as 2070, some will look back at 2022 as if it wasn't too long ago. Time is relentless and sometimes seems to pass through a fairground mirror before it hits our perception of it.

@SpotlessLeopard2 жыл бұрын
@Maxwell Boyne It's debatable. Between 1926 and 1974 there was another World War, the beginning of immigration, and a created 'counterculture' from the 1960s onwards, with television being the main change agent. Vastly different times with abortion becoming legal, plane journeys becoming the norm, and feminism starting to rear it's head. The internet has obviously changed things a lot this century, but what we see culturally now is a rehash of 60s/70s culture, albeit with machines making the music usually, rather than people. But a lot of the accepted ideals from the 1970s are still in play today. It's the last two years where things have really changed obviously, which could ironically see 2070 being less advanced than 1926.

Been to wembley cup finals with the Boro, finally seen us win a cup, went to a European cup final in Eindhoven against seville, travelled Europe watching Boro, but as a 10 year old watching us romp the league and get promotion in front of nearly 40 000 crowds at Ayersome park( not every week in the big games) and the following season where we took teams by suprise and finished 6th and breifly being top at crimbo and the great Bill shankly said he thought we were a contender for the title! These were some of my best memories has a lifelong long suffering lol Boro fan. god bless you big jack, you were ok for a geordie! UTB.

@@johnbuffaloiam9741 actually I take that back and Pogba is a case-in point...he's a physical specimen who would leave these lads in the dust from a fitness standpoint...running up a hill would be nothing, probably would do it in half the time...remember this was the pre-pro era where most of these guys were still regularly smoking, drinking and had pretty mediocre diets...things that are just sacrilege in the modern era...I'm not saying these guys weren't fit but if they'd packed in those rubbish habits and they'd known how to properly get dialed in, imagine where'd they be? the salaries have gone through the roof...but so have the training standards....conditioning is at another level and they've got the best nutritionists in the world on tap....I think a number of them would be like "yeah why not? something different" get them out of the stadiums...
