Borodin String Quartet No.2 Esmé Quartet

It’s fitting that Borodin’s music is played by an all-women quartet as he was a supporter of female emancipation. Borodin encouraged women to become physicians and set up a scholarship fund for those so inclined. Borodin died of a heart attack at age 50 while dancing with his wife.

I don’t know. This is the first time I’ve heard of that. I so far have not read a full length biography of Borodin. He seems to have been a fine and wonderful man who had a too short a life.

The nocturne movement is incredibly beautiful with a flowing, hovering melodic line that weaves into itself and seems to be slightly lullabyish and dreamily romantic.

This is a beautiful interpretation, plenty of love, as Borodin felt for women and human beings. The interpretation is very clean and full of feeling, making it easy for a sensitive person to follow it with her heart and brain, attending to any of its notes.
