Say what you will about Yankee fans but they LOVE the sport of baseball. You cannot love the sport of baseball and not respect greatness when you see it. Sox fans are the same way, which is why they gave Mo and Jeter great ovations during their own farewell tours.

My daughter was a diehard Yankee fan as a young kid, I brought her to Fenway and she was decked in all the gear, shirt, hat and jacket with Yankee logo. It was a playoff game and I was nervous about what reaction she would get. In spite of the Yankees winning as I remember 19-3 the Boston Fans treated her like a star, we didn't have seats and during the game 2 gentlemen asked her if she wanted to sit for a while and offered to stand. I was completely endeared to those fans and have rooted for Boston ever since.

As a Die hard Yankees fan, I can honestly say Ortiz is one of the Greatest, he did a lot of beating up on the Yankees, but it’s the rivalry. Red Sox did show respect to Jeter and I’m happy the Yankees showed respect back!

As a Yankee fan, he brought out the best in both teams. He was not only a great player but also a first rate gentleman. You have to respect David Ortiz. He earned it. He beat us playoff and regular season games. I am proud of how both the Yankees and Red Sox have conducted themselves in honoring players such as Jeter, Yazstremski, Rivera, and Ortiz. The best rivalry in sports and we do need each so that this rivalry remains the best in all of sports
