What an experience it was. Talking about actual pitches- some of the greatest inside work I've ever seen, so sharp, crisp, so cut. Not just the outside-in, where the pitch travels from outside to inside etc, but those times where the pitch, from release, holds a razor's edge inside pitch trajectory, like it travels through the eye of a needle the whole way to the plate. And the ball effect, such a clean, compressed ball, deceptively dense and heavy; it just neutralised energy transfer. Even good wood on the ball did not translate well.

I wish his blown saves against Cleveland and Arizona were included. As a Yankee fan they hurt but made him even greater in my mind. Look at how many established closers blew big games and were never the same. This guy blew it with Millions of people watching and came back even stronger. Guys like Mitch Williams, Jose Mesa, etc who were so good were never the same. Solid but never the same. Rivera was even better after those. Look at guys who lost velocity as closers. Papelbon, Gagne. They were never the same. Rivera lost velocity and was still dominant. Still relying on movement and location. Without showing that I think you lose the story. Rivera wasn't perfect. He got hit but where many people especially as closers, stayed down he got back up and knocked the other guy out.
