At first, I read the title as "instant hot water heater teardown" and was thinking maybe one of them blew up, showing an instant tear down. lol.

It amuses me the trolls that say some of what Ed does is illegal or wrong. If that was the case I think he has the sense not to post it on the internet. However, trolls must mean Ed is somewhat successful :) I dont see harm in liking every video i watch of yours as they are informative & im sure have helped many. I'll keep watching your vids as long as you upload them lol

We call them combi boilers, I'd scrap them all day long, lots of brass and a nice heavy copper heat exchanger.

its a shame they are going over to the electronic controlled units, if the 2 bosh units were the same I would have made one good one out of the 2, their good units overall.

Aussie great to see you have taken such an interest in these hot water services just a couple of things i thought you may need to know in Australia NG stands for natural gas comes through your gas meter at 1.1kpa aprrox static about 1.4kpa Lpg stands for liquefied petroleum gas as far as i know comes through your regulator on your gas bottles at 2.75kpa static about 3.25kpa there is nothing low about Lpg it is twice the pressure just to let you know more about how they work on the bosch unit it goes as follows provided gas is on and cold water is on ( not to be funny i have seen a unit that a customer couldn;t light had the gas turned off ) pilot is alight a hot tap is turned on cold water goes through the water section and passes a venturi which opens the sid valve (allows the burner to come on)in two stages) first stage is to prevent main burner coming on straight away and burning out the heat exchanger cold water pushes on the diaphram lifts the bearing plate and pin allowing the main burner to come on the sid valve is what you pointed at at about the 4min 21sec point of the vidio it has a slot for a flat tip screw driver to open as the tap is turned off the sid valve closes allowing the gas valve to turn off main burner (ribbon burner) if the burner stay alight the sid valve maybe faulty (calcified up or jammed ) the temp sender you mentioned was the thermostat which is connected to a a bellow in the gas section the unit will raise the water temperature (when working correctly ) 25 degs this is why you may get a colder shower in winter than in summer (hard to balance the water temperature in winter ) ps sorry to be so long winded i hope this makes it clearer to understand the workings Freezing Weather In areas where the atmospheric temperature may drop below 0°C, the heater must be drained to prevent damage by expansion of freezing water. For appliances installed in locations where the temperature falls below zero ° C for brief periods , the installation of an EXOGEL expansion valve, part number H 707 060 151, will minimise the possibility of damage to the appliance. This water heater MUST NOT be installed in areas where the temperature remains below 0°C for extended periods. ps keep smiling

If the burner is activated by a water pressure drop, what happens if your water service is cut off? Surely there's something that keeps it from operating if no water is actually flowing.

Ed, any chance you can do a video on catalytic converters and scrapping catalytic converters .... I am not that mechanically minded and would like to learn how to idendify them when searching for scrap metal on aussie rubbish and farm dumps etc ... thanks mate... Billy

can you use the copper coil thing on stove to heat up water ?
@BoomBoxDeluxe12 жыл бұрын
Mmmm! Please keep one of the heat exchangers and pump water through it. ......While it's sat on top of a bonfire! :-D You know you want to. :-) Another idea: Keep two of them...One can go outside on the bonfire, and the other can go in the workshop with a big fan behind it. That would be an awesome heater project. :-D Thanxx for showing, -BoomBoxDeluxe

if the igniter doesnt work it could be to the fact that you have to hold down the flame button, in my appartment i have two of those gas geisers as we call them, and have 2 gas heaters also. if you want to start them you have to hold down a buton that enables you to press the pieso ignitor button and feeds a bit of extra gas into the system, bypassing the bimetal plate regulating the gasflow

How long has Australia had on-demand water heaters? In the U.S., they've only been around for probably less than a decade, and have only seen widespread installation in the last few years.

these were always mad popular back in korea,but not here in the states ,they mostly still use the big bulky hot water tanks that hold 55 gallons,and yes the older tankless heaters are way more durable then new crap

Water drop does not operate it the water flow will raise the rubber drum in the valve which pushes a pin that opens the gas valve of the burners, and for the black one I think it's "Saunier Duval" a French brand cause I had one with the same knob, but now I have a "Sylber" Italian brand which is very good just open the tab and you'll enjoy a hot bath B-)

New stuff is a pain and always fail just outside warranty period! Our Valent TURBOmax boiler gave up the other day, wasn't ingniting the gas, so no hot water or heating and it's winter over here! £180 lighter for an new main board!

Hm I agree ,little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing .the magnet that the thermocouple screws into is around the back side of the aluminium gas section .not in the water section .

Poor things, they were too simple to stay alive in the new world. Need at least one 32 bit ARM core CPU loaded with poorly compiled operating system by a lazy ass programming team, a minimum of 23 active sensors, 7 active servo actuators and a color graphic LCD touch interface. Honestly, I was in Ukraine many years back when I met my wife. They have all mechanical tank-less heaters (some scary scab repaired ones too). Moral of the story is they all worked great without a single transistor.

instant hot water is a new thing in Canada we still use tank type heaters that keep the water hot whether you use it or not they are a big waste of utility’s
@OlegKostoglatov12 жыл бұрын
I'm not really crazy about most of these on demand hot water heaters, the usual designs require you to run the tap for several minutes before the burner kicks in. Some of the newer designs have a small reserve tank that gives you hot water almost straight away without having to wait for the burner to kick in but for the most part I prefer a higher efficiency hot water tank over the on demand heaters.
@TassieLorenzo4 жыл бұрын
On these the burner kicks in within a fraction of a second, and then the delay depends on how far the tap is from the heater.
@techtron23769 жыл бұрын
The only problem with these is that they will freeze up in the winter, which is the reason why it should be indoors in a warm room - I've seen a guy pissed off because his water heater froze 3 times and Bosch didn't really care about it. Anyways if the unit must be outdoors then the only thing you can do is use the electronic crap new heaters, which do have defrost, but I don't think they will last very long...

Brian Harrison This is an autopsy video of something I found at the scrap yard, NOT a "how to fix your gas heater" video. it should be taken as a tutorial on how to repair one. I do need to go through the titles on these and update them. too many people assume they are a HOW TO FIX vid, rather than a machine exploration vid.
