Do you experience any heat exchanger leaks after cleaning those that have been installed for a long time without being cleaned? Do you inform your customer of the possibility of a leak occurring if you clean one that dirty? Do you know if the newer stainless heat exchangers are less prone to leakage v. the older copper heat exchangers that haven’t been cleaned in years? I’m about to start this service to my customers. Thank you!

If the heat exchanger is really badly deteriorated then yes I will inform them. I have had only one start to leak after cleaning. And I’m not sure about the newer stainless ones yet.

On my unit the inlet/exhaust pipe goes out the roof. I believe I can’t remove the exhaust/inlet pipe withwithout damaging the exit from the roof? Is my thought process correct? If not how can I remove the pipe from the top of the unit?

If it’s a non condensing model and you have large white concentric piping, then the piping should come apart. Might take some patience but it will come apart. If it’s a condensing model it might just have PVC piping which you can just cut and then glue a coupling in when you’re done.

@@JeffsHVACAdventuresit’s a non condescending with the correct piping that comes apart. To remove the pipe do I have to lift the pipe a 1/2in or so? My concern is if I lift it I might cause a leak on my roof around the pipe? I’m not really sure how the pipe rests on that collar. I can’t find any videos.

@thomass.magnum9062 I see your concern. If they just used a regular rubber roof boot to bring the pipe through the roof then you should be fine. The pipe isn’t cemented to the roof. It should slide up and down easily. But it they did roof cement the roof penetration around the pipe then yes you do have to worry about re sealing the roof. Which isn’t that hard, you can get a can of roof cement and it yourself.

We have a brand new house and installed a Rinnai tankless water heater. It heats the water initially but in 20-30 seconds, the water is cold. Any ideas?

Is it throwing any codes on the display? If no, it could be either a water pressure issue or the flow sensor. There is a screen on the cold water inlet you can try cleaning.

It's "endless" hot water not instant. Depending on the system 20-30 seconds is quicker then average. The only way to have instant hot is you need to have a recirculation pump. If your system has one you should have instant hot water. If you do not have a pump like my noncondensing Rinnai it takes close to 2 minutes to get to the furthest point in the house. Those pipes are sitting with cold water in them if there wasn't call for hot water for a few hours. It has to push all that cold water through before the hot water makes it to your appliance. I turn my shower on and brush my teeth while it's getting hot. You get use to it. If you have a pump you should check under the sink at the furthest point in the house and see if a bypass valve was installed. It sends hot water back to the water inlet. That will also help with quicker hot water. If you want to get really fancy there are motion sensors that detect when you walk into say a master bath. It turns the recirc pump on and fires up the Rinnai so you have instant hot water. My Rinnai isn't made for a pump or bypass valve. It works great though and I flush it every year. Just did mine and I even have a special tool for filter removal and the filter plastic still broke. It turned a hour service into a 3 hour service. I had to remove the water inlet assembly put it in a vice and chisel the plastic out of it. From now on every year it's gets a new filter. I assume the Florida heat got to the plastic. I keep many spare parts on hand and after this I just ordered another $200 worth.

Why wouldn’t you put an extension pipe on the blower and a flat end on the vacuum ? Way way more efficient and it would clean it way better

This a great video and I want to give it a try. Thank you. Where can I buy nitrogen compressed air and is there a guidance on the pressure settings? (This is going to be my first DIY, I was able to remove and clean the ignitor, next step to use pressured nitrogen air on the inner parts) I see this on Amazon, is it good enough for the job and what kind of pressure settings I should be using? www.amazon.com/Regulating-Real-time-Monitoring-Conditioner-Evaporator/dp/B09SCWY7TM/ref=sr_1_6?crid=ZJ98K4J6SPWF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9UtoLvRwKaTxq6xOKZTokiAcQ7L5Ozr79HUImSseVXObkqA_4bTcq_5QsB-v70-ppLMbwhBIJ8W9kOJ3ogNlEYToBKKoVOmyOcYzfF51Vv9LsOvIOBr9zdRjrUggjo9_NI2Mm-w2QiljpqzTzYOqW01joaDG0URgujsMguy6PTRX6UyBdQSWa5a8xLCkz-_wUC0ArU7cg7xdMmJNS-Iu2NraGjnjdsLRQuAeNXe_CvqGVzZbLEvlbd8rEK6d66LS_uhfgj-Ha6_V_lU0Levj2_MD4jeoWNuIS29j3PgK6KA.p_srDpswQzi7fFl1vtamSEXKKrBmX3kNYZiLV9sTzXk&dib_tag=se&keywords=nitrogen+air+compressor+for+cleaning&qid=1721319761&sprefix=nitrogen+air+compressor+for+cleaning%2Caps%2C156&sr=8-6

You don’t necessarily need nitrogen, if you have an air compressor, that will work just fine. I don’t believe that kit comes with nitrogen. You would need to hook a nitrogen bottle up to that kit. I would say I good pressure setting would be between 80-100psi.
