Bosch DareDevil/Insty-Bit Roller Lock Impact Hex Extension Review

Thses are excellent extensions for 1/4" Hex Drives, these are straight, have a compact head, are well made, and use a licensed 3-ball roller locking mechanism that works very well and is very compact. and these are made with high tolerances so long bits do not wobble in the chuck.

Just... WOW. Received my 6" version today. First impression = this is a quality tool just as you described. Weighs in at a "whopping" 81 grams, which made my smile wider. I removed my Bosch 2" quick release and mounted this directly to my drill. Yeah! If there is ANY wobble it is so minuscule I'm not sure I even see it. I have bought so many tools, and eaten so many chickens, I am almost certainly going to hell. This one was a great buy. And under ten bucks including tax! Just... WOW.

Thanks. I was just fussing with a different kind of Bosch bit holder that kept locking up on me today - I needed to use pliers to get a bit out - so I'm eager to give these a try. Wish they made a shorter one, too. I bought one of these, and I feel the review is entirely accurate. Thanks.

I’ve had these Bosch extenders for about 18 months, absolutely love them. Which they made a 3” version too. I tried Irwin, HF, Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Stanley extenders before I bought the Bosch. One thing you didn’t mention, they are some of the lightest extensions I’ve found, and they are plenty strong and impact rated.

Get then from Insty-Bit they have several lengths, it seems Bosch just went for the 6 and 12 inch versions

I could be wrong but these Busch extension bits look identical to Home Depot's Diablo bits, I bet they used the same design for both.

The patent stamp in the Diablo image on the Home Depot web site matches the one in this video so it looks like they are the same.

These Bosch units look good and certainly are competitive, both features and price. I have a 6" DeWalt version of this extension. It's head measures .583 inches (14.8mm). It has a magnet. If I ever need a longer one I would certainly take a look at the Bosch units but have been happy with the DeWalt.

They're great for driving and drilling holes with the spade bits, but dont seem to last long with 3/4", 7/8", 1".....ect

Hey cat as usual good vid, let me ask you this why is it you can’t get a good locking adapter that is well magnetized? To me the biggest frustration is when you reach way down in the back of a bottom cabinet and put a screw in the back of it and you pull your gun out the bit stays in the screw. I would love to see you do a video comparing the best locking magnetized non-extension adapters. Again thanks for all the good videos

Kreg also have the same design, i have the irwin bit holder but not the impact and it's great, i think the irwin bit holder got their design from the old yankee screwdriver.

I've had two of the smaller ones snap in the last six months. Used in a DeWalt impact driver installing garage doors. Bosch is definitely not what it was!

I saw these extensions back in early March at HD and they caught my attention. I was surprised that Lowe's did not carry them. I like locking extensions because bits don't stick to screws after driving them (this happens often with magnetic extensions). Now I wished I could buy a locking magnetic extension or buy a strong magnet that I could fit behind the head (something like Makita XPS Mag Boost). Ordered 6" and 12" from HD. Thanks.

yes it will work well with hex shank drill bits because it holds so tight

Catus--Another interesting video showing us what's new and available to help with a particular problem. Re your hands, it's a problem for lots of people. Have you considered wearing thin latex gloves rather than working bare-handed? I use Microflex Diamond Grip gloves (Ansell), which are powder-free. I started wearing them years ago when placing strain gauges on concrete 6 x 12-inch test specimens for compression testing. We used an epoxy to adhere them to the cylinders (or drilled core), then soldered wires to the gauges to capture the results as we ran each specimen to failure. I also wore them to keep my hands clean when we made concrete specimens in the Mix Room. As long as you're not allergic to latex, give them a try. And consider using a hand sanitizer gel that has Aloe Vera and Vitamin E in it to minimize peeling.

Those look straight enough to use those hex ended drill bits. Foot long drill bits aren't cheap, my last 1/4" cobalt bit was $25.

I need to extend a bit but the end that goes in my drill is just round like a bit head welded on a rod. I don’t have a square or hex like your bits will any of these work? Thanks.

Yes indeed they are and the same patent number which is insty-bit. So you can buy insty-bit ones for black collars Bosch ones for blue collars or malco's for red colors all precisely the same all made in the same Factory

These are really good extensions. Irwin's old design was very similar to the Bosch but the new design is terrible.
