400 million for chip production is a joke. When I did my intern 20 years ago in a now defunct semi fab in LA, one single machine costs 12million, a regular production line has 20 such machines for one step, and normal line has 100plus steps.

A clear sign that you have no clue about the subject. You realize that bleeding edge process nodes are not part of the Bosch portfolio? They produce very mature and cheap nodes which are used in cars and household appliances. If anything your comment shows that you don't have much indepth knowledge of the industry.

"These investments couldn't come at a better time." Well, if they had invested earlier, they could be now selling as much as they can produce. I'm sure Bosch is not the only company that is and has been for a while working on to fix the chip shortage problem. Once every company's upgrade projects will be finished, the result might be an oversupply of chips. But diversifying production outside China, where a great majority of electronics products has been manufactured for years, is a good thing. Generally having all the eggs in the same basket is risky, and lately especially China has started to become more risky.

I don't think you need that much space for semiconductor manufacturing, and you can always reclaim land from the sea. It would make sense not to concentrate even more investments and capital in Kuala Lumpur. Maybe Johor Mahru makes more sense because of proximity to Singapore. But the Penang area isn't bad either. Where else would you put it besides these three spots?

@@pineapplesareyummy6352 How bout Selangor?? It is just beside KL, supply chain can be relink, and you have no worry on how stable the reclaim land from sea are. On the plus side, talent like engineer or programmers are gather in KL. In overall it makes it a more reasonable candidate??

@@williamlai29 Malaysia can have a slice of the global market, but Malaysia with a population of just over 30 million isn't going to "supply to the rest of the world". The only country that is likely to do that is China, with its supply chains, political will, large pool of qualified engineers, market size, etc. But the world market is 7.8 billion, so obviously Malaysia can take a slice of that.

The world is developing new technology of carbon-based chips, POTATO CHIPS. Chips produced with carbon-based materials are faster in processing data and more energy-efficient. The materials can also be used in numerous fields such as weather monitoring, artificial intelligence and medical equipment.
